VLC RTSP stream faling on RLC-410-5MP
-
Hi,
I have an RLC-410-5MP Wired camera
I am trying to get an always on display of the camera view using VLC.
I had this working fine on my old camera (foscam), and chose this camera because it also supports the RTSP streams.
I can get VLC to display the stream, but it does not stay up for long.
Sometimes it works for up to an hour, but always drops out.
I've enabled logging on VLC and see that the video data is not being sent fast enough to VLC
I've tried both the main stream and sub stream. Both have the issue.main warning: buffer too late (-3274370 us): dropped

I have tried viewing this stream on two separate PCs, one linux and one windows.
One is connected directly to the same switch as the camera.
If I press play again in VLC the video plays again fine.
Any ideas how I can identify where the issue is?
Is there a log on the camera?
Or some settings I could change either in VLC or on the camera.

Not sure if this will help but you can try changing buffer from 1500ms to 3000ms in VLC
Tools > Preferences > On Interface tab in the lower left check 'ALL' under Show Settings, In left pane click on 'Stream Output', In right pane change Stream output muxer time from 1500 t0 3000.
You can also try per stream, Media > Open Network Stream > Network tab > Check Show More Options in lower left, then change cache time there also. -
Thanks for the suggestion, didn't seem to make any difference.
I've found a workaround, In VLC you can set it to loop a video once it ends. Since this is a stream it should never end, but loss of the stream is treated in the same way as the end of a video, so once the stream is lost, VLC tries to open it again.
This seems to work, and so far I've had the stream running for 24 hours. I see VLC warnings about being unable to play the stream, but it does actually get back on track and play the video.
So this works for my immediate needs, but does make me worry that doing anything more advanced with the RTSP stream is going to be unreliable.
I'd be interested if anyone else is having rtsp stream issues with these cameras or not.
Thanks -
That's great information I was looking for, can you share more about it. girls games
