A quick question about using a POE switch.
If I have 8 cameras running to a POE switch which then run a single cable from the switch to my router. Then run a single cable from the NVR LAN port to my router and then add each camera as individual units.
My concern is will the single cable running from the switch to the router be able to handle all the data from 8 cameras at once. Or is it better to run each individual camera straight to the NVR?

Connecting cameras to the PoE switch is the way to go. Router these days comes with gigabit ports so 8 cameras should be fine. Some switches come with 2 uplink ports but it is unnecessary in your case. You want to avoid connecting the cameras to the NVR as this ads NVR dependency to your cameras. Often, NVR firmware is behind in supporting new camera features. With PoE switch, you are connecting directly to your cameras and have full access to all the features the cameras provide.
