Reolink TrackMix 760: Initial Setup Connection Issues and Workaround

At Clickibit, we tested five Reolink TrackMix Dual-Lens Cameras (760 model) and encountered significant difficulties setting them up, particularly when using the QR code method. Here’s what we discovered and the workaround we recommend:

      1) Wi-Fi Configuration Sensitivity

The Reolink TrackMix 760 is highly sensitive to your wireless router or access point settings:

      • Smart Connect: The device struggles with Smart Connect, where the router automatically manages wireless bands under a single SSID. For best results, separate your 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi into distinct SSIDs.
      • Wi-Fi 6 Compatibility: Despite supporting Wi-Fi 6, the device only works on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, not the 6GHz band. Ensure your Wi-Fi 6, 6E, or 7 (6GHz) network is on a separate SSID and avoid using it for the Reolink setup.

      2) QR Code Brightness Issues

During the setup process, the QR code display on Android or iPhone devices dims automatically, which complicates the scanning process:

      • Solution: Tap on the QR code to open it in a separate image view. Once opened, increase your screen brightness to the maximum. However, switching back to the app will cause the brightness to dim again due to the app’s behavior.
      • Observation: This dimming appears intentional, possibly to influence setup outcomes or promote specific models, though the root cause is unclear. Competing brands like Wyze have resolved this issue by ensuring the QR code remains bright during setup.

      3) Lens Confusion During QR Code Scanning

The Reolink TrackMix 760 features dual lenses, but the setup instructions do not clarify which lens is active for QR code scanning. This lack of guidance can lead to frustration, as it did during our tests, where scanning became nearly impossible even after hours of attempts.

      Recommended Workaround

      1. Follow the Wi-Fi setup guidelines in Point 1.
      2. Use a LAN connection for the initial setup instead of the QR code method.
      3. Once the camera is connected:
        • Disconnect the LAN cable.
        • Wait 20 seconds and then power off the device.
        • Power it back on without the LAN connection.

This approach should help bypass the challenges with the QR code setup and get your camera operational.
