Doorbell using colour at night limits options

The doorbell cameras provide a perfectly good colour image at night with just moderate street lighting or security lights. Unfortunately, when selected, this kills the option to have the light ring 'always on at night' and the ir leds on. I don't understand why... Having colour on doesn't stop it being night!
