HELP! Setup Question...
Hi, I'm an idiot.
I got the RLC-410, set it up by the computer, it works.
Then I went to set it up by the garage. Question (and I can't find the answer anywhere): How is this "POE" if I have to connect the DC power cable in the attic? Is there something I'm missing? The DC power connector is attached permanently to the camera, so I can't take that little piece off and reconnect it at the end of a cat5 run, right? So how do i use it without running an extension cord into the attic? Is there something else I need to buy to be able to run NOTHING BUT cat5 from my router, though the attic, and connect it to the existing rj-45 connector WITHOUT connecting the existing 12VDC plug? Otherwise, it's not really POE, right? It's just an ethernet camera.
So I know I'm stupid. Educate me
Thanks in advance!
The model RLC-410 is POE camera, with built-in POE module. So it can be powered by POE NVR/ POE router/ POE injector/POE switch.
You may use the default ethernet cable for the connection.
The camera is also with the power connector, you could also connect with 12VDC power adapter.
I will try to say this in a simple manner.
POE power travels on the same cable as the data. I use CAT5. Even though it works fine on this single power/data cable there are times you might want external power thus the other connectors.
If you want the simple configuration let your NVR that has POE ports power your cameras. Only one cable to run. Be advised that most routers do not have their Ethernet ports deployed as POE. You hook the NVR uplink into the router, not the cameras. A common mistake is to get this confused. Sketch it out so you get it straight in your mind. It will make the fine tuning of the configuration parmameters easier.
