Hello,Previous to getting a NVR (RLN8-410, build 1609240) I was recording using the Reolink Client (V188.8.131.52) on windows 10 and really liked the pre-record feature. Once I installed the NVR, I continued to also record with the Reolink Client to compare behavior.I do have pre-record turned on on the NVR, however, the Reolink Client always pre-records 5-6 second before the NVR. I'm not sure how long the pre-record is supposed to be, but I always assumed it was about 5 seconds, so it seems the NVR pre-record may not be working, or it doesn't pre-record very much at all. ( Is there any way, other than the checkbox being checked, to confirm that pre-record is actually working on the NVR?Is there a way to adjust how much it pre-records?For additional comparison, the camera is a RLC-411S, build 16091804, and it also has pre-record turned on, and it pre-records to SD about two seconds more than the NVR, and about 3-4 seconds less than the Reolink Client.I would like to eventually depend soley on the NVR, but I don't like that it has the least amount of pre-record, or the pre-record isn't working. How long is the pre-record supposed to be for each of these? Thanks,Richard.
Richard,Not an official answer to your question on the pre-record as the manual does not say a number, however the manual does says the following about pre-record, "While Pre-Record is enabled, the NVR will record a few seconds before an event occurs. It’s a little like making the NVR psychic .If you’re using Motion Detection (recommended) based recording as your primary recording method(s), then it’s a really good idea to use Pre-Record - sometimes, if an event is fast enough, it might have left view before the NVR can trigger a recording. With Pre-Record, there’s almost no chance you’ll miss it." (emphasis mine)
Hi, RichardFor your 2 questions:1, Pre-records are longer on SD card than on NVR.It is normal that pre-records are longer on SD card than on NVR. This difference is caused by memory allocation.2, It is not available to adjust how long it pre-records.Normally speaking, pre-records are 5 seconds approximately. And it is not available to adjust how long it pre-records because camera cache only few seconds' streaming, which may not enough to set it optional.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I'd hoped the NVR pre-record would be at least as much as the Reolink Client or even the camera it self, but since it's due to limited memory in the NVR, I'm guessing it can't be changed through firmware.
Hmmm, why not use the HDD inside the NVR and use that for pre-record caching? It sure is a serious limitation for the NVR solution if pre-record isn't working.
