I am able to connect to the NVR when I'm on the same network. I setup an OpenVPN server on my network to allow a secure connection to the NVR when I am not home (via the mobile app). I can confirm that I can see the NVR via the VPN, I can go through my mobile browser and enter the IP of the NVR and it shows the page to download the client application. The issue is, when I open the Mobile App and I'm on the VPN, I try to login and it fails. Has anyone ran into issues connect through a VPN?
I connect the same way myself using a commercial VPN solution because my Reolink NVR is not given permission to send any data outside of my internal network. At fist, I would have to click on the gear icon next to the NVR preview image and change the default "uPnP" option to "IP Address". After doing that, and entering the IP if it was not already, I would attempt to reconnect and it worked. A bit of a pain that the client would not remember the setting each time. With the latest firmware (not sure what you are running), and iOS app, I have not had to make the change as the client finds my NVR without issue once the VPN is established.I do not have split tunneling enabled on my VPN, so all traffic from my mobile device must flow through my VPN via the internal network. I do not seem to have any issues as long as I can see (iOS) that the VPN is up and operational. If you permit split tunneling and the network you are attaching from has the same IP as your home network, this can cause issues with routing, etc. Have you tried to test this using a cell (mobile) network, or just over external WiFi?I can confirm it works as I use it daily while away from the house to check in on our horses.
@Quella thanks so much! I switched it to IP and it works!
Glad to hear it, and it may not need to be done when if you upgrade the firmware. Again, it would be nice if the client remembered this option so you would not need to set it every time back to IP.
