RLN8-410 E-Sata Max Hard Drive Size? Use with External Raid Enclosure?
-
Hello,
My name is Scott. Recently I purchased an RLN8-410 along with 8 assorted reolink cameras. Ultimately I would like to expand storage with this NVR to allow up to 2 weeks continuous recording from all 8 cameras, which I estimate to require at least 7.087 TB of storage.
I need to know the maximum size HDD that the NVR's Operating System can support on the e-sata port. Does the OS support Long Logical Block Addressing (Long LBA)? If so, has anyone tested use of a 6 TB e-sata hard drive? What about the use of an External Raid Enclosure connected via e-sata?
If I cannot get the answer to these questions, I may have to return the NVR and integrate my camera recording system into my home server instead using Blue Iris. -
Hi, we only tested 4TB HDD with the NVR and it could work with our NVR without any problem.
Currently we did not test other HDD with higher storage.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
And as your requirement, you can change the built-in HDD to 4TB and then add a 4TB HDD via the eSATA port. -

True, although this would require the purchase of two additional hard drives and leave me with a spare 2 TB drive (hopefully one optimized for surveillance recording and not general performance) which I do not require.
Considering the fact that 12 TB disks are becoming available and 6+ TB disks are now commonplace, it would be a boon to your customers if you tested the viability of larger capacity drives for them. If such higher capacity drives are usable, you could advertise greater maximum capacity to your customers with no additional development costs. It may be worth considering. -
Hello, thanks very much for your suggestion. We will arrange a test with larger size HDD in the future ASAP. If there is any update, we will let you know.

Awesome, I appreciate your responsiveness in this matter. I await the results of your testing.

Any news on this front? I am anxious to hear what the result of your testing was.

It has been almost 4 months. Have you conducted any tests?
-
I curious to know the answer too.

Hey, what were the results of the tests? Its been 3 years now almost.
