      Hello

I have RLC-410-5MP and RLC-410. All works fine, videos is uploaded to my FTP server, but i have trouble with Motion detection at night.

Flying dust and insects run video recording. During the night I have about 100-150 events, videos with false alert. When I set the sensitivity low, to prevent a false alarm, camera does not record any person, any dog, nothing at night.

For example this my video with false alert
      https://youtu.be/-PKYOswG_i4

How to set sensitivity? Any idea?

        Hi,

I have the same problem with my setup RLC-410 cameras. I'm also getting a lot of false alerts if i set sensitivity "high" and had to disable the motion detection alerts. Can anybody advise how the setup their motion detection sensitivity to avoid false alerts from bugs, rain , snow, etc..

        thx

Mounting a separate IR illuminator and toggling off (or masking) the RLC camera IR LEDs reduces false positives for bugs. Windy/rainy maelstroms are still also mail-storms 😉

This is not a solution. Camera detects motion incorrectly. Sensitivity settings need update 😉

But wait, there's more solutions we have yet to try! I'm thinking an Arduino board with PIR (or microwave!) sensor, which flashes an LED when triggered. This LED flash, in turn, would then (hopefully?) cause the Reolink cam motion sensor to activate. 🙂

Is it possible to connect the IR illuminator directly to the camera? I have my cameras powered by POE from switch.

The camera probably (caveat tinkerer) can be opened up and the illuminator (or power wires) routed out of the housing. Waterproofing the modded system would be tricky. Many illuminators are 12VDC powered, as are the RLC410's when powered by the barrel connector. The 802.3af (PoE) is 48V for the 410 though. There are PoE splitters (PoE powered single input, multiple PoE output) I've heard rumours might work. IIRC, PoE powered illuminators exist, but one needs to run more ethernet.

I have probably solved a problem with insects and dust. This setting (2x2 squares) does not detect very small flying objects. People or dog detects 😉

                      Hi Milos,

Can I know how do you get to the 2x2 squares?

Your gui looks slightly different than mine.
                          But anyway, thanks!

Pretty clever way of reducing false positives! 🙂 Watch out for false negatives though -- the things the motion sensing doesn't detect may be a surprise. Dawn and dusk are the toughest times (sunlight turns IR off, but still very dim light for a small camera sensor). I've had some luck placing a boundary area only, say, at the entrance of the driveway -- pets can wander freely in the driveway without alerting the master. 😉

This setting (2x2 squares) allowed me to increase sensitivity at night. I have a false alarm, 3-5x per night, not 100x 🙂

                                Hi Milos,

Your 2x2 grid helped reduce false alerts for me as well.

Now I have another problem, snow :-). Not sure if you get snow where you are, but in Canada it has started 😞 and triggers motion detection more than insects. Can you share with me your sensitivity setting, maybe that will help reduce the false alerts caused by snow?

                                Thanks again
