I have a Reolink WiFi Floodlight camera. Using the Reolink app on my iPhone I can open the camera over cellular. How does that work or what technology is that. I thought I was going to need to setup port forwarding on my router. How does it work over cellular right out of the box?

@d-a-n_l It's a P2P protocol which allows the client to communicate directly with the camera. If you do a search you my explanation of how this works including the mobile signalling too.

@d-a-n_l You can get this by capturing a Wireshark trace. First run wireshark and then start the Reolink application. Note that the packets are encrypted but you have an idea of the communication flow. You shall see the client do DNS query to get the A record of the Reolink P2P servers which are being provided by AWS and Azure. Once the client get the IP of each P2P server ( 8 to 10 servers if I recall correctly), it will request the local and public IP of the camera based on its UID. This is all encrypted. Then the client will use the received IPs to establish direct communication with the camera, normally initial packet sent to port 9000. You want more details :).
