I am trying to figure out how to record on my laptop with the PC client from Reolink. I want to record 24/7 on the (external) hard drive but I am stock. The pc cliënt wants me to put in a SD card so I am wondering. Is a SD card necessary although I want to record on a hard disk not using the SD card?
I have the Reolink Duo Wifi 180Reply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@user_695001177313467_695001177313467 You should record to the PC HD. Check this link https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003593554-How-to-Record-to-PC-New-Client-/
You may opt to use ftp and let the camera ftp the recording to a remote ftp server (excluding battery operated cams).

Thanks for your information. I figured it out
. If i continues record will it override the oldest footage? I think it depends on the size of the video map. Can I use the setting on the camera itself for record options or does this not apply when recording with PC?
You said FTP is an option but what a troubles I have with the setting. I don't get it done so that's why I moved to the pc although not the best solution. I have a Netgear router with connected hard drive which supports FTP but when I fill all fields all I get is a failed connection 454. Not sure what I am doing wrong here.Reply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@user_695001177313467_695001177313467 There is no file override when the folder holding the recorded videos reaches the configured size. However you can send an alert when the configured remaining space has been reached.
As for the ftp, install cerberus free ftp server on your PC and configure ftp or ftps on your cameras. Should be fairly easy. -
@joseph_1979 Thanks again Joseph for your quick respons. It has its limitations the way I record with the laptop. But when i install FTP server on the laptop I presume it has always to be on just like now. Advantages would be that i have more settings I can use like override, right?
Best scenario for me would be that i can figure out the external hard drive working as FTP server in the Netgear router. That way the laptop is not needed.
Sd card necessary?
