Playback plain and simple (reviewing what has been recorded)

From the Live/playback window: USELESS. Can't find events (all 8 cams are set to record by motion trigger all 7 days)

If I follow the file path to my PC (same LAN as the NVR) I have to insert the files back into the client software, convert them to a file type my windows 10 media player can play. Way too many steps.

What am I doing wrong?? Who can tell me the minimum steps to efficiently review a day's recording? From the client software on my PC
