I have RLC-410-5MP cameras and use a custom-made contour-based motion detection software using OpenCV (a million times better than the stock motion detection, it may be similar to what the new 510 are using) and i would like to have some way to have the software signal the cameras to start recording, is this possible?

You need to set up Split Tunneling and exclude the camera's/NVR's IPs from the VPN, some VPNs automatically exclude LAN ips but some you need to do yourself
