@joseph_1979 uh this might work in TX but here in my country... As soon as I know what it is I know how to deal with it. Honestly I was hoping that, after we got a dog, cat's and other animals wouldn't come in anymore but seems like they don't care much abuot our dog.

@comercial_403123693113500 well after adjusting the settings according to josephs suggestions it works pretty good! I think Reolink should optimize the software / app because most of the issues seem to come from wrong settings because it's not very intuitive to understand how some of these settings work together.
Covering the camera from rain is however a good idea but my cam is already covered because I have it ceiling mounted. As long as the rain doesn't come in straight it should not be affected by rain much and with the settings mentioned above, it will still detect any motion but only trigger an alarm if it's a person, pet or vehicle (depenting on what you want to detect). This really works so I think this is how you're supposed to set it up but again, this isn't very intuitive and should be changed.

@joseph_1979 Yeah I hope it would also detect whatever animals are coming into my garden at night, they sometimes leave some unpleasant presents so I want to know who they are and maybe where they belog so I could give some of the presents back maybe lol just kidding but if I know where they get in, I might be able to stop them from coming in!

@joseph_1979 Hi, I was able to test the settings a bit yesterday and it is definitely much better. The alarm is still a bit late as it is, I could almost walk half way across the garden before it went off, but the camera seems to have pre-recording so I can see on the footage as I walk towards and through the gate. I'm hoping that adjusting the sensitivity will result in the alarm going off earlier, but it's already much better than the Argus. It also detects animals now, this morning a bird sat on one of my sunflowers and ate some seeds.

@joseph_1979 OK, these settings look a bit different on the iOS App but I think I managed to replicate it. I'll need to test these but not today, it's raining cats 'n dogs

 I set it to max for person but it didn't work when I tested. Honestly I didn't spend much time with it, I mainly set the motion sensitivity. Should I set the motion sensitivity to max to make the smart detection work better? Or are these two separate things? Maybe that's why it didn't work yesterday? I have the motion sensitivity set to about 28-30, which is about the range where it would detect any movement at the gate, but maybe I'm thinking in the wrong direction?

@joseph_1979 Oh, thank you (again) you have to go into schedules to set this, ok I haven't seen this.

So that would resolve the issue with the constant allerts and, I assume, with the recording as well.
However, when I was testing the camera yesterday it never detected me as "PERSON", it only dtected a motion so if I set it to not trigger on motion it would not allert if someone walks towards my gate. That's why I was wondering if something is wrong with the cam?

it's a bit ironic to be honest, I first ordered an Argus PT Ultra and was not happy with the PIR. It did not properly detect people walking towards the camera, which I have had to learn seems to be in the nature of this thing.
Reolink Support was very kind and tried to help so we agreed on an exchange and, after reading and studying all models, the TrackMix WiFi seemed to be the best solution because it could be ceiling mounted, connects via WiFi and also has tracking and, of course, a non PIR based motion detection.

Yesterday I installed the new camera and set everything up. It worked very well and after some testing and fine tuning I was very happy with the result, the camera immediately recognised me when I walked towards the gate (which the Argus never did) and also started tracking me. During the day I had a few "false alarms", probably from moving branches or insects flying by near the can.

At night, however, it started raining and that's when things got out of control. The motion alarm was going off every minute, I reduced the sensitivity, but that didn't help much, plus the camera wouldn't be able to detect anyone at the gate!

In the Argus there was an option to set whether the camera should detect "other" motion than people, animals or vehicles, but I couldn't find anything like that in the TrackMix settings.

Also, does it never indicate whether it detected a person or just a motion, the allert alway says "motion detected". The Argus clearly stated what it detected (motion, person, animal or vehicle). Is there something wrong with my camera or have I missed something? How can I limit the detection to only people, animals and vehicles instead of raindrops and leaves?

I am beginning to doubt this technology ...

edit: it started raining again and the allert goes off every minute again. The cam has allready recorded 18 GB footage over the past 12 hrs, that's crazy! And this way it's not useful because if something happens I'd never notice because I'm allready not lookinga at the notifications nor am I interested in watching all the footage! If the cam would at least differenciate between a "motion" and A PERSON is detected I would know when to pay attention to an allert and when not...

@joseph_1979 Unfortunately I'm not an engineer and not much into this kind of technology, at least I wasn't until an hour ago lol. However, when I purchased the cam I was looking for a cam that works mostly self-sufficient to have maximum flexibility. The product description does mention PIR but it's also promoting that the cam is capable of motion detection in a "security" context so I was expecting it to work. Some of the product images even show the exact same situation I have so yeaaah.

Oh ok now I understand, I do not have checkboxes for these in the iOS app, this is found in the "no detection zones" settings, I think I can just paint the whole "others" area to avoid the PIR to trigger when the leaves are moving. I just tried this and it looks like it works ... I'll test if this improves motion detection for persons now.

@joseph_1979 Yes of course a permanently powered / watching camera works different so I think it's not possible for a battery powered system to provide this level of motion detection and pre recording. However the Argus (and most other battery powered cams) are definitely capable of doing this as long as they have enough power. So I think it would be cool to have the option to enable such a feature if you have a power cord attached or you can manage the higher power consumption by using time plans and solar panels. I have my Argus Ultra powered with a solar panel and the battery never dropped below 80% so far. So if I could switch to an always on mode to provide better motion detection for the night it would be great.

@joseph_1979 OK well then this seems to be not the optimal technology to provide sufficient motion detection capabilities for a security system???
Also, I wonder why it triggers every time the leaves move, that's a bit contrary to how the system works according to your post, because leaves and branches don't move that much and should emit the same amount of IR as the rest of the area because they all have the same ambient temperature?

Oh thank you for mentioning the motion tagging, this explains why this works flawless. And YES it makes no sense to have this on application level instead of the source. The new reolink cams also claim to use AI to prevent false arlarms so why does it trigger when leaves are moving. I wonder if reolink will and can optimize this, I don't know if motion detection could be done on a "higher" level in the system without changing the hardware???

I have the Argus 3 Pro, Ultra and DUO 2 and they won't detect person if he/she is farther than 9m at max sensitivity. And of course PIRs are triggered if the object moves across and not approaching. Therefore positioning is quite important.

OK, or maybe not because this makes a security cam useless. I mean, 99% of the time you want to see/capture someone walking towards a spot not across. So even if I'd put the camera so it would detect a person walking across I would have the same issue because it would detect the person only if it's walking through my garden and not when entering the door. Pointing the camera any different than towards the door diagonal across the garden would not work because of trees.

Also will the sensor detect every moving leaf on my trees if I turn up the sensitivity even tho I painted an no detection area round all the trees/bushes but still it triggers every time the wind blows through the leafs. But it would not detect me walking trough the garden???

I don't understand why that's not working, every other motion detector I know will detect motion in any direction, for example my lights, they go on no matter how I approach them, the sensor has differnt sensitivitry settings but it detects everything within 180°.

What about sunlight? Could this be an issue? I was testing during daylight when the sun was shining on the camera (not directly but in it's direction). Could this be an issue?

I got a new Argus PT Ultra a few days ago and mounted it on my terrace roofing to cover my whole garden and also the terrace if I want to. This works great so far, the picture is clear in both daylight and nightvision. However the motion detection will not trigger if someone is at the garden gate which is about 10 m from the camera. I tested it while mowing my lawn and the camera will only detect motion at about 1-5 meters ditance.
I tried turning up the sensitivity and tried to define different sizes for person recognition but that didn't help much, only thing that changes is that the camera will dedect almost every moving leaf on my trees even tho I excluded them manually from the dedection area.
I haven't found any specs about detection range of the cam, does anybody know how far it can detect motion? Is there a solution to cover the entire garden?

edit: I just enabled Motion Mark to see if the Camera detects motion as such in the distant and YES it DOES. When Walking through the gate, the camera recognizes my motion and puts the mark around me as expected but it DOES NOT trigger the motion detection push notificatioon. I'm waiting for my SD card so I don't know yet if the camera records when a motion is detected or not. If not I think this is major problem because I'd expect the cam to do exactly this!?
Or maybe I'm getting / doing it wrong? All I want is, that the camera will detect if someone is walking through my gate and notify me and record a video of who or whatever it is.
