Someone broke in to my home and camera didn't catch it..

Someone broke in to my home and camera didn't catch it.. they opened the metal screen door and booted the door in, came inside (luckily we had door alarms which scared them), then left through same door and camera didn't catch any of it. Has anyone else had a problem with the camera not being fast enough to catch motion?
