Thanks. I tested Reolinks 5MP camera with zoom. Zoomed in at 150' it could capture a parked cars plate. I also viewed 2 YouTube reviews of the 12MP camera. One review shows a demonstration holding a license plate from 10-50', and was barely viewable at 50' The second was the reviewer in the U.K. who drove his car at a slow speed an it looked like under a 100' from the the camera. I'm not expecting a license plate camera that captures vehicles at high speed and reads and logs the plates. The police can run a suspect plate individually. I think either their 8MP or the new 12MP cameras might be able to capture plates in a burst photograph mode vs a video mode at a greater distance . Or if they added a 50mm fixed lens (if they can't do it with software) many would buy it at $200-300 to have the ability to capture plate numbers.
My suggestion is for the Reolink software engineers.Capturing video on a 4k / your 8MP / 12MP cameras at a reasonable distance of 100' in a video file does not work. At very low speeds the license plates are blurry and unusable.Advising the police after a crime occurs that you have video of the suspect in action or vehicle used is often useless; unless the suspect is caught and the video images can be compared to the suspect and or vehicle used.My suggestion is to develop a still jpeg mode that the user can zoom to crop into an area where vehicles would pass, it would be fixed mode that remains on (not a temporary zoom feature), then capture a burst of still photos. Aka License Plate Capture Mode. For users wanting to capture a video of the crime they would install two cameras. One to capture the incident in a wide angle view using the standard video mode and the second with License Plate Mode to capture useable plate numbers. Another suggestion if the License Plate Capture Mode (cropping feature to narrow the capture area can not be done with software) is develop a camera with a 50mm fixed lens. More than willing to test and review your 12MP camera or 8MP camera with this mode.
