The issue with the live view on android seems to be because when you go to channel selection all the channels are always selected. If it auto switched to the channel you selected only one stream would be playing and there wouldn't be lag while streaming. But every time you switch channels all the channels get selected. I'm just trying to point out an issue so reolink can address it and make the app even better. The windows app and NVR I never have a issue with and I know those are hardwired just saying.

@curls But there is the possibility to select which channels shall be viewed when you select channels. As for lagging it depends on a number a factors such as the bandwidth available on your mobile network, access type, number of cams, etc. I have 6 cameras and have no issue on watching them altogether in live view on my smartphone. Can you switch your smartphone to the same WIFI network the cameras are connected to and try again?

@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 I have a AX6600 WiFi 6 Tri Band Router with gigabit internet and only 8 devices connected to WiFi and 6 of those devices are smart bulbs and switches. I'm on the same network as the cameras and even if I select one channel and view it I still get lag where the sound and video cut out. But like I said wired watching on the windows app or NVR I have no issues.

@curls The way you described it implies that there is no issue on the upload link. Can you install ookla speedtest application from playstore on your Android and check the download speed? Which cameras you have installed in your premises? And if you select low res (fluent --------- I told Reolink to keep consistency throughout and replace clear with high and fluent with low res)........would you encounter the same issue? Both WIFI and 4G/5G. If you are on HSPA then you will definitely have this problem.

@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 Even if I hit channel selection and uncheck everything but one camera and try and watch it on clear I still get lag where the video freezes then starts again. I've rebooted the NVR and router. I just don't understand.

@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 I have 2 (RLC-811A) 1 (DUO 2 4K) 1 (TRACKMIX POE) 2 (RLC-824A) & 1 (RLN8-410 NVR) All with latest firmware.

@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 Update. It seems that by enabling hardware decoding in the settings menu it fixed the issue I was having.
-
@curls Nice to hear that. There are instances where this has to be switched off so that the decoding is solely done through software as some HW decoding can cause issues. What is the model of your smartphone? From the speed test I see that your latency is a bit high and may impact bandwidth and performance. Mine is 1ms.
Can you check whether you experience this behaviour when using the Android application with the resolution set to Low? Switch on the audio to check whether it chops. Then switch to high res and check again. Do this when your smartphone is on the same network where your cams are connected to and on 4G/4G+/5G (whatever RAN you are connected to). On HSPA you will experience this but this technology is being phased out. -
@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 No issue on low resolution. I'm using a AX6600 WiFi 6 router and I was using Cloudflare DNS and getting much higher ping and slower WiFi speed. I switched back to my ISP DNS and it improved, but they say anything under 50 is good. What DNS are you using if you don't mind me asking?
-
@curls I always use the ISP DNS servers.

Ensure that the app you are using for live view is up-to-date. An outdated version might have bugs that have been fixed in newer updates.
