Now that I my system setup, I was looking to add more external hard drive space. Searching around on Amazon, I see a few ESATA external hard drives, but am not sure if they're designed for surveillance use. Would appreciate any make of models that are well known to work. Thanks.
I picked up a 3TB internal surveillance drive from Amazon that went in the second bay of the 16 Channel NVR. It was a WD model here: WD Purple 3TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD30PURXIt was nearly a year ago so I'm sure the 4TB is the same if not better price.
You can purchase SATA HDD and SATA-to-eSATA conversion cable for connection. You don't necessarily need to purchase eSATA HDD which has less options available on Amazon.
The cable? Well, there r plenty of them, like this one-https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_13?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=sata+to+esata&sprefix=SATA+to+eSATA%2Celectronics%2C485&crid=3FNWYX92PCXOIAlso keep in mind that the HDD needs to be powered up with external power adapter. Because the NVR will not power it.
