Included waterproof adapters for RJ45 cables

Hi, question on the included waterproof adapters for the RJ45 (ethernet) cable for the 410 PoE camera here. Do I have to cut the included RJ45 cables in order to put the male end of this waterproof casing on? Seems to be the only way, just wondering why I would need to do this as I don't really want to have to go buy an RJ45 crimping tool in order to put back on the connector if I cut it. Is there any other way?

Funny as I had the exact same question when I was doing my initial install.

You are correct that if you want to utilize the waterproof covers that come with the cameras, you do need to cut the cable if it is an existing one. I pulled all my own cable for my installs, so I was putting on new ends and they work great. If you have a number to install, I would recommend you use a new connector and buy crimpers.

I have seen others that have used plastic wrap and electrical tape to seal things up, I'm just not sure how well this would work in a harsh environment. I have had no issues with the connectors provided apart from them requiring you have one end cut.

I had the same problem with waterproofing the RJ45 socket and unfortunately the socket has become completely corroded and failed. I lost the connection and have to cut off the socket and rewire. Does anyway have the camera wiring for the POE socket? I will be using a Hyperlink Technologies outdoor weatherproof box for the new POE connection.

Wire diagrams for POE and non-POE are the same when it comes to Ethernet cable. If you know the color coding of the far end of you existing cable, you can wire the one you cut the same way. I used the standard CAT6 diagram below as I was making all new runs with both needing connectors. Just make sure both ends are wired the same. The wire should be a straight through cable, no twists or cross-overs. The hardware on the ends of a POE connection determine if they should send power down the wire or not.

Thank you for the helpful reply. My specific issue is the POE wiring from the camera. It consists of 6 wires:

green

green/white

orange

orange/white

purple

white

My task is the connect each wire to the wiring schema you detailed in your reply. ie which color to which RJ45 pin?

Again, there is no special POE wiring for the Reolink or other cameras that I'm aware of. I did all my own wiring for our house and barn for our camera system. It is a standard CAT 5e/6 pass through cable, nothing special. Once again, the POE hardware is what negotiates over the wire if a device is POE or not; not the cable itself.

Pin 1 on one end of the cable will match pin 1 on the other end, again a straight through. The wire is simply a way of connecting the camera to your hub. Same with all the other pin 2->2, 3->3, 4->4, etc. So if the non-cut end of the cable is Orange/White, Orange, Green/White, etc. the other end of the cable pin 1 will also be Orange/White and so forth. The diagram I provided above is one of two standards for wiring Ethernet (POE or not) cables; Cat6 and Cat5. You do not need to follow it, simply make sure you are matching the colors in each of the pins with the other end and you will be all set. It is always good to follow a standard, but if your cable does not match this, follow your cables setup. If needed you can cut both ends and wire them as standard if not. Your call.

Thanks for the prompt response. I'm doing a poor job of communicating my problem!

The RJ45 socket from the camera is totally corroded and rusted. Consequently I have cut off the socket and wish to rewire it. However there is no way I can figure out which wire color goes to which pin from the camera - 6 wires in total. The standard cat5 cable then goes from the socket to the POE power supply.

I fear I will have to try to open up the corroded socket and see if I can figure out which color goes into which socket pin! Any ideas or suggestions are most welcome. I realize I voided any warranty by cutting the corroded socket off the camera cable!

Sorry @Vahe, I was unclear as to the initial issue. It sounds like the issue is not with the cable to the camera, but the camera's Ethernet jack itself. The actual cable that goes from the camera body to the cable pigtails (Ethernet, power, reset). That is something which I would email support and see if they can provide that diagram detail. All of mine are encased in plastic and unable to see the colors.

Below is the PIN for the RJ45 Cable on the Camera side, here is 6 PIN only. If user want to remake the RJ45 cable on camera side, please follow below PIN info :
Orange & white to PIN 1;
Orange to PIN 2;
Green & White to PIN 3;
Grey to PIN 4 or 5;
Green to PIN 6;
Purple to PIN 7 or 8.

The Reolink instructions are poor regarding the waterproof connection covers.
How to install the waterproof cover

The instructions in the link above do not even show rubber grommet that seals around the cable or the O-ring. You just have to guess at which direction to install the grommet and in which connection to put the the O-ring. Also would be nice if you could order replacement part for them if you lost some of the parts (like I did). I also was lacking one O-ring when I received my cameras.
