How do you install the weatherproof plug over the Ethernet cable end to attach to the camera? the end is too big to fit thru the plugs hole. the only way i can think of is to cut the end off, feed the cable thru and replace a new end on to the cable.undefined
I don't believe you can. I believe this is for people who actually will run the ethernet cable, cut it, crimp it, and then add the ethernet connector AFTER you thread the ethernet cable into the waterproof cap. I usually buy 100 ft of flat ethernet cable to connect my cameras. I then connect the cable WITHOUT the waterproof connector, then wrap the ethernet cables in 2 layers. One is standard cable management cover, then I tightly wrap that with electrical tape, ensuring the whole connection is covered and tight so no water gets in.I have 2 Hikvision cameras that I have been using for over a year with this setup and have had no issues. I did the same for my Reolink camera.
We also received the suggestion from other customers:Sealed all camera connections using following method:Checked the RJ-45 jack to make sure it was clean, replaced if was not.Used compressed air to blow rain out of female end of jack attached to camera.Used Di-Electric paste in the jack to seal connection and keep water out.Used Duct Paste to wrap around connection further sealing out moisture.Wrapped Black Electrical Tape around connection to keep everything in place.Hope it will help you.
That process won't last very long. I buy a 4x4x2 outdoor grey PVC electrical boxes, cut holes in one side to run the wires in and out, then mount the box so the holes are on the bottom.I wish REOLINK would come up with a better way to do this. They came up with a way to waterproof the RJ45, but that leaves the reset switch and power jack left unprotected, even if you don't use them.
Yes, thanks for your feedback. We have been researching on it to do an improvement for the hardware.
Honestly, I think that is overkill. If you are using flat, weatherproof ethernet cable, you don't need to run it through a conduit or anything. Just tuck it into your flashing or other crevices as you run it to your switch or router.
Tucking it into something works great, if you have something to tuck it into! If you're mounting on light poles or the middle of a structure, that doesn't work. Also doesn't work for commercial installations. You'll be expected to do a professional install where the wires are in conduit. So you just have a box at the end of the conduit, mount the camera to the box cover, drill hole in cover for the wire, then seal with silicon.
