Do I need the NVR?

I have the RLC-411 and love it. I have it saving to a hard drive by using the client, which works well. I was hoping to use the android app to view saved files, but it doesn't appear that I can do this by saving files to a computer. Do I need to purchase the NVR for this functionality?
