Is there any meaningful advantage to having micro sd cards in each camera when using the Home Hub Pro? I will probably be purchasing the Home Hub Pro soon and would like to know.

@rwsmith_458368852840619 It's a backup. If the HHP HDD becomes faulty (or the HHP itself becomes faulty or they stole the HHP) then you can still access the recordings on the SDs. This is what I have. SDs, HHP and I do ftp the files onto a remote FTP server.

speaking for myself, i went with sd card to try out first. because the home hub pro cost a lot. so before i make that step, i want to try whether i liked the reolink doorbell wifi before i made such a commitment.

it's good and definitely worth it for me. only downside mine is black version so has no package tracking near feet level.

what the hub does is offer u storage space located more securely in your home. If you use sd card, there is the chance the thief can simply unhook your cam and run off WITH the sd card in it. So if u want to view playback after the fact, no chance, since the sd card got taken as well. UNLESS, u had also setup the FTP as ur second backup. but if not mistaken, u cant use the reolink trigger filters to view those ftp video recordings.

The video stored on the home hub pro CAN be viewed by the reolink app unlike ftp so i heard.

so my advice here, sd card if u r not too serious about security so u arent too worried if sd card gets taken, or you just want to try it first before spending a boat load of cash for the pricey home hub pro.

for best security, using the hub is more ideal than the sd card due to the issues mentioned.

@mooglestiltzkin_394766309384342 Being a novice to security that's the way forward. However, I would opt for an NVR rather than a HHP. Higher capacity and at least a 1G eth port. HHP has 100M eth port and this poses limitation on the number of concurrent streams. If you have eight 12M cams then you have already reached the limit. Personally they should have released the HHP with a 1G eth port.

He might opt to use third party applications like Frigate, BI, etc provided that the cameras can stream in ONVIF (which batteries cannot provide unless connected to the HHP).
