newbie question
-
Previously used generic IP camera via router with a mac to monitor side of house but looking at Reolink for better quality and began reading about POE and Reolink products.
If I bought something like the IP66
together with the switch device and downloaded the app to my Mac, is it pretty idiot-proof to set up please?

It is not difficult to set up a POE camera. You can power on the camera and then add it to the Reolink Client on your Mac. Refer to https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015719534-How-to-Initial-Setup-for-PoE-Cameras-via-Reolink-Client-MAC-

Thanks Cynthia
where these differ from the IP camera's I've used previously is this Switch device I need in between camera>router,
expect it's probably easy enough I was also hoping to read about someone using one with a Mac as those have been known to have some different features.
Can I ask if you are able to view your camera remotely too please and which sort of phone/device you use? -
You can remotely access the camera on a smartphone or computer which can work with the Reolink software.
You can have a look here. https://reolink.com/software-and-manual/
Reolink App is running on both Android and iOS.
The requirement for Android: Android 4.1 and higher.
The requirement for iOS: iOS 8.0 or later.
Reolink Client is running on both Windows and Mac.
The requirement for Windows: Windows 7 and above.
Note: For the requirement of hardware configuration, you may refer to the requirement of hardware setting on your PC for installing Reolink Windows Client.
The requirement for Mac: iOS 10.9 or later. -
Hmmm, seem to be missing a reply here, I was going to ask
at initial set up is it essential its a smartphone scans to QR code on camera and set up a password
before visiting the Reolink app
as that appears in your link to assume a password has already been set up beforehand

If you set up the camera via the app, you will be asked to set up a new password for the camera. If you set up it via the client, the password is blank by default. You can change the password after you log in and initially set up the camera.

Hi, Cynthia, if I'm right MacOS version for Mac client needs to be 10.10 at least. In fact my Mavericks was unable to run anything newer than 3.5.6.55.

I have Elcapitan 10.11 so that should be OK I installed this to see how it looked
hoping its the correct one,
what I really need is the basic info now on what I need beside camera, so don't need anything recording just a live camera
and I'll need a 'switch' between camera & router is that right?
