"What you see is what you get." I see that the Argus 3 product description mentions "can tell humans from flying bugs or twigs". My guess is that while that may in fact be true, it is misleading. PIR sensors detect movement of objects that are a different temperature from the background.
If a product doesn't perform the way you want out of the box, there is not much chance that it is going to improve. What usually happens is a company develops a NEW product with improvements. (Not just Reolink. ANY company.)
I would return them and move on.
Argus 3 Motion Detection
-
Hello,
I purchased 4 Argus 3 cams to go around my property and so far have installed 2 of them. Are there any plans to add some smarts to these things the other competitors offer such as person only detection and motion zones? I feel I'm already having to fiddle with these things too much to get it how I want it. I thought I had it pretty good, but today is a windy day, and the cams are being set off way too much. All this is with the "Reduce False Alarms" setting turned on. At this point, I'm just turning down the sensitivity, but I'm afraid I will miss legit events. I'm still within my 30 days to refund, but hoping not to need to go through that process.
Also, I understand certain features on these (or any) battery operated camera cannot work because it would require them to always be on, such as for 3 second pre-record. However, I have these hooked to a solar panel and I get a lot of sun. Would it be possible to allow some extra features to be turned on in these cases where a solar panel is attached? There is a competitor's battery operated cam that shows a very low res, black and white 3-second pre-capture, and this would be great. Now that I own these, I feel I'm missing some key features.
Thanks -

I've worked plenty with companies that have made improvements based on customer feedback. Are you saying Reolink has a track record of not making updates and making improvements to released products? If that is the case, then yes, they'll be going back.

Your experience does not match mine. In almost four years, Netgear has not addressed the 'top five' user requests for changes to the Orbi mesh WiFi system. The original product description said the USB port would support hard drives like the Nighthawk line, but that was quietly dropped a year later. I have lost count of the number of mobile phones that NEVER got a firmware update. My Samsung Tab A remains on Android 9. (and on and on.)
As far as Reolink goes, there appear to have been 19 firmware updates since 2018.

The original RLC410 product physically wired the LED illumination LED's into the day/night sensor, so it was impossible to disable them with software.
My point is not to rag on Reolink. "Betting on the future" with regard to electronic products seems unlikely to pay off.
