Can Motion Sensors Be used to Prevent Camera Theft?

I'm new to all this tech. I was wondering if motion sensors were good enough that I could place one beside the camera and if someone got too close an alarm could sound.
Is this not possible? -
You could, but the key is if you or someone is close enough to prevent theft or damage.

Thanks for the reply. I thought my camera had sound but it doesn't from what I've been told. I have the RLK8-800B4. If it does have an alarm, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.
