Old thread ended Oct 2016. Looks like it's still a problem. I have notification and email turned on for all categories in the settings. My email address has been varied. I do get notifications but no email if someone replies to a thread that I stated or to a thread I've replied to. I'm king of my own domain so it isn't getting trapped in some sort of goggle filter. If I have anything going on in this forum I need to remember to check in because I'm not going to get any email from the forum. Makes it difficult to keep up with replies. Not the usual MO for a forum.
