      I am in the UK

Vodafone V-Sim has now been discontinued

Anyone recommend another SIM I can buy for the Reolink Go Plus?

@user_687590809428209_687590809428209 So no more M2M.......Should be a normal SIM with a data bundle. There is O2, EE (I did testing with this operator) and H3G. As long as they support LTE FDD: B1/B3/B7/B8/B20 or WCDMA: B1/B8 then it should be fine.

All you need is the apn...........ensure you type it correctly and no spaces otherwise the MME will reject the IMSI attach.

You can calculate the GB based on your requirements (storing to the cloud, low or high resolution live and playback view, the frequency of viewing and the average duration, etc,

I have a camera already with the Vodafone sim and it works really well, very low cost. I want 2 more cameras but can't find a suitable replacement sim, and the response from Reolink is pretty poor.
I am thinking of trying a generic IoT sim to see whether I can get it to work. Reolink really ought to bundle a sim card.

@cotters_469494706512076 I have got the same problem. Can’t get any reliable answer. When I tried to phone up to see which sim card would replace the V-Sim, no real usable answer. When I asked if the cost of me dialing into the camera would be on my phone or on the camera, I was told it would go on the phone. Later I read in the forum it would go on the cameras. Like you suggested, it would be excellent if they would supply the sim card. On one of my go cameras, I got a sim card included. But that was a one off.

@cotters_469494706512076 It should be IoT SIM which shall have access to the Internet. M2M normally restricts access to Internet and so you cannot access it from an external network.

@s-stoessler_71959255531 It should be a SIM with Internet access. You can try the one you have in your smartphone. Don't forget to add the apn in the camera otherwise it will not communicate with the MME and SGW (mobile operator EPC).

Both the camera and the smartphone mobile accounts will be charged. Camera needs to establish a data session with the mobile packet core of the operator to forward the video while the smartphone has to establish another data session with the mobile packet core to receive the video.

In calls scenario, the receiving party will not be charged (unless it is not roaming). But packet data is different.

@joseph_1979 Thank you very much for this excellent explanation. Can you do me one more favour? With the V-Sim, I didn't have to enter anything but the ICCID and IMEI. Where would I have to enter the APN in the App/Client?

@s-stoessler_71959255531 Only on camera. Follow the procedure outlined in https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900006968183-How-to-import-APN-information-to-Reolink-Go-PT/

                        Hi Joseph,
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve got it all sorted now. (Thanks to your excellent advice) I checked several deals, but they were all rather expensive. Then I spoke with my current phone contract supplier and they were superb. I upgraded my two phones for very little money and got four more sim cards for my cameras. Now everything works perfectly. It was so good; I didn’t even need to enter any data like the APN file. Just turned my cameras off, exchanged the sim cards and booted the cameras again. That worked super easily. By the way, I found out that the V-sims had a limit of 40GB data. That explained why I sometimes had problems with the speed of the connections. I had reached the limit. I use the cameras a lot. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

@s-stoessler_71959255531 You're welcome. I am quite proficient in both the packet and circuit mobile core networks. It is fun troubleshooting issues on the mobile RAN and Core networks. Is the revolving restaurant on the BT tower in London still open? I had my lunches there when I had meetings with BT engineers.

In old 4G cam models, customers were asked to create a file with the apn deatils. So with the new mobile module and fw, this is being added in a similar way this is performed by the smartphones. About time...we are in 2024 :).

Just wondering who is your phone supplier? I'm assuming it was not Vodafone?
I have 8 cameras with V-Sims that no longer work!

I was wondering if anyone had any solutions. Currently looking at Thingsmobile and Eiotclub.

                              Any pointers appreciated.
