Here is a spreadsheet I created using macOS Numbers to monitor usage of NVR / HDD storage capacity.

The default settings appertain to my specific system but these settings can be easily changed to accommodate other system setups.

My system consists of 1 x NVR, 2 x 4TB HDD’s and 8 x PoE cameras recording 24/7

Specification:

NVR:
1 x RLN8-410 (e)
2 x HDD (Western Digital Purple 4TB)
1 x eSATA enclosure

Cameras:
6 x B800 (8MP )
1 x D800 (8MP)
1 x RLC-420 (5MP)

Configuration:

All cameras recording 24/7

Resolution, Frame Rate and Bitrate of each camera set to maximum values

Audio enabled on one B800 (8MP) camera

Additional settings will be provided on request

Reolink Software:

MacOS Desktop Client (required to monitor HDD free space)
Substitute references to Reolink according to your preferred software

Realtime Testing

The spreadsheet was used to monitor realtime tests until there was no more free space available on the HDD’s (17 days)

The HDD’s were then reinitialised prior to above test being repeated

The results of these two tests was consistent (17 days) verified by the dates (highlighted in green) in the 'Playback Calendar' of the Reolink MacOS Desktop Client

How does the spreadsheet work?

The spreadsheet contains formulas which calculate the number of days the system will continuously record before the earliest recording is over-written.

By default, this is set to 7424

This value relates to the combined HDD storage capacity (GB) after initialisation on my specific system.

However, this value can be changed by double-clicking on Cell H2.

By default, the number of rows will accommodate 21 days but this can be adjusted by adding or deleting rows accordingly.

What do I have to do?

Day 1

Open Reolink
Make a note of what each HDD is called for easy identification later
Initialise your HDD’s
Immediately after initialisation, make a note of available free space of each HDD (current value)

Open Spreadsheet
Double-click on Cell B2 - enter current date and time
The date and time you enter will be automatically copied to the cells below and will require no further maintenance
Double-click on Cell E2 - enter current value for HDD1
Double-click on Cell F2 - enter current value for HDD2

Day 2

Open Reolink
Make a note of available free space of HDD1 (current value)
The available free space on HDD2 should remain unchanged at this stage

Open Spreadsheet

Double-click on Cell C1 - enter current date and time
Double-click on Cell E2 - enter current value for HDD1

Other cells will populate automatically and the number of days the system will record will be displayed in the end cell in column K

Subsequent Days

Open Reolink
Make a note of available free space for the active HDD (current value)
The available free space on HDD2 should remain unchanged at this stage

Open Spreadsheet

Double-click on next available ‘End Date’ Cell - enter current date and time
Double-click on next available ‘HDD1’ Cell - enter current value for HDD1

Other cells will populate automatically and the number of days the system will record will be displayed in the end cell in column K

What do I do when the HDD1 is full?

Open Reolink
Free space on the HDD1 should read (0)
The system will now be writing to HDD2
Make a note of available free space on the HDD2 (current value)

Open Spreadsheet

Double-click on next available ‘End Date’ Cell - enter current date and time
Double-click on next available ‘HDD2’ Cell - enter current value for HDD2

Other cells will populate automatically and the number of days the system will record will be displayed in the end cell in column K

Update daily until HDD2 is full

Testing is complete

Delete any unused rows

The average number of days is highlighted in green

Adding Rows:

Highlight Row 22

Click on ‘Add Row Below’

Row 23 will appear

Click on Cell B21

Press and Hold Shift Key (Arrow Up)

Click on Cell B21

Release Shift Key (Arrow Up)

A blue rectangle highlights the selected cells

Hover the mouse pointer over the centre of this rectangle

When a yellow dot appears on the bottom line of the rectangle, hold your mouse button down and pull the rectangle downwards

This will copy the data and formulas to the row below

Double-click on the bottom cell in Column K (Total Days)

The currently selected cells are highlighted and there is a circle in the bottom right-hand corner

Hover the mouse pointer over the circle and pull the rectangle downwards to include the new cell

Click the green ’tick’ button to confirm the change

Finally, add the next sequential value in the ‘Day’ column (Cell A23)

All done - I hope these instructions were not too confusing - I will do my best to answer any question?

Cynthia,

I have uploaded the spreadsheet (219KB) but it isn't available for others to download?

Will you have a look at this please?

Apologies to anyone who has been waiting to download the spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet cannot be uploaded to the forum because it is in Mac format (.numbers)

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Here is a workaround...

I have appended .jpg to the end of the filename to 'fool' the system.

You can now download the spreadsheet but you will need to remove the .jpg before opening it.

Some users may not be familiar with this process, so I have prepared a series of 10 screenshots.

Hope this helps - enjoy!

From a personal point of view, this spreadsheet has now served it purpose and I have no further use for it.

Feel free to convert it - no point in me trying as I am a Mac user and have no way of testing it

The issue is downloading, as your .jpg does not function for windows users. Upload it and paste the dl link.
I have never used a mac, curious to see if a conversion keeps functionality.

I can tell you that in the past I have tried exporting Mac spreadsheets to Excel format and embedded formulas haven't worked properly afterwards.
