Just bought an argus 2 and solar panel. In the atrium, aimed away from the front door. Pathway to the front door is about 15 feet. All the camera recorded is him bending over to drop the package off, turn around and walk away. Not sure what he looked like, except he was bald. Camera is upside down, Japanese maple to the left, left side of the door frame to the right of the frame. Camera sensitivity is on high.

Any way to get this thing to kick on A LOT sooner?

        Bump+1

I have three Argus 2's with solar panels... by the the PIR is activated, I only get glimpses of the back of the mailman, on his way to another address...

Hi, the battery-powered camera will go to standby mode (sleep mode) to save the battery power and when the PIR detected the motion to wake up. So there is a delay (about 0.8s) since the motion trigger to the camera starting record. It is the hardware limit and we suggest you may change the installation angel to make it trigger the camera earlier before the person left. You may refer to https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006379253.

I suggest to implement an "always awake" function for those using the Argus camera plugged into the power outlet.

tallmanjolio, I have the same problem. Camera doesn't start recording until the person is almost out of view. Changing the view as Reolink suggests does nothing.

papini.l That is all good except the Argus 2 is a battery operated camera and should work until the need to charge the battery.

I suspect changing firmware to keep an Argus camera "always on" when connected to electric power (not solar panel) is a non-trivial programming task. There is a very good chance that the electronics inside the Argus line are entirely different than the RLC line of cameras and the software also entirely different. This delay between an event starting and recording plagues battery cameras that are three times the cost of Argus. I had thought about doing one of the "hacks" to bring constant power to my Argus cameras and realized there was no point. I bought a couple to see how they work, and find them cute as hell. But not buying any more.

I just bought two Wyze Pan Cams. $30 each and amazing cameras for that price. Now I am going to buy their basic Wyze cam for $20. They can't be used outdoors, but I can mount the tiny basic cam inside a window to monitor what my Argus does outside. Glad I found these.

Further to my post of January 22, 2019, I have since put a Wyze $20 V2 camera outside under the eaves. It has withstanded any weather throughout the summer and now winter. Has been as cold as -20C here so far and the camera works flawlessly. Someone comes near my front step and I get instant notifications.
