I suggest considering deploying a Linux snap, which works across Linux distros. And, for the price of a Raspberry you can release for ARM as well as X86. If you are using Qt, a sample build script is at https://[censored]/markummitchell/engauge-digitizer/blob/master/dev/snapcraft/snapcraft.yaml.

I just purchased and installed a set of 4 RLC-420's. Wine has made leaps and bounds of improvements recently so I decided to give it a shot with the Reolink Surveillance software. The software starts and runs well. It finds my cameras on the local network segment and logs into them. I can manage all aspects of the cameras through the more than adequate device settings menu. I even updated the firmware successfully on all 4 cameras. The only thing that is broken for me is the ability to see what the cameras sees. Nice work. Great software. And I would bet that if you put even a little time into it you could get your software running against wine smoothly. Or, even better, write a native GNU/linux client.

Now I know that seems crazy and all seeing as the linux user base seems very small. But if you look at it from a purely security perspective, then running your NVR on a platform not known for network security best practices might look a little crazy too. In fact When I look at the specs of your RLN8-410, I notice that it's running on embedded Linux OS. So why no native client for the linux desktop users?

Another person here who would like to see a Linux client. Have tried Motioneye and was good but nowhere close to the video quality of the Windows client.

I've just posted a 1 star review on Amazon:

The UI doesn't work on Linux browsers. The page says: "Please left-click the following icon to download and upgrade the plugin. Please restart the browser after upgrade." and it links to download DvrWebClient.exe. That's a step back from Reolink 8CH NVR that worked on Linux browsers just fine. I'm hugely disappointed. I wouldn't have upgraded if I knew that.

                    Hello.
Unfortunately the client runs only partly under Linux with Wine.
The settings can be accessed. The sound is transmitted. But unfortunately no picture. Did anyone get the client running on Linux? Greetings from Switzerland.

So far, the Reolink Client can be only supported on Windows and Mac.
There is no client for Linux.
                        Thanks for your understanding.

I would really need a linux client, too.
                        Thanks for your understanding.

Hi, another Linux user here 🙂

I plan to buy a RLK8-410 system together with 6 cameras.
But I have only Linux Clients. What are my options here?

I know the client does not run officially.
But did anyone manage to access that NVR with the latest Firmware from a Linux client?
Did it work by wine? Or Firefox with flash plugin?

In the worst case a RTSP streaming by VLC should work, right?

                          Thank you very much!

You're fine. RLK8-410, unlike RLK16-410, offers a functional web UI that works on Chrome on Linux. It's flash based though. RLK16-410 offers no web UI on Chrome whatsoever so that's troubling.

So well I'll go for the RLK8-410 model.
Is the RLK16-410 just outdated Software wise or does it have a totally different firmware?

I wish I could answer. I have no idea, and I didn't care that much to disassemble the firmware and find answers. What I know is Reolink doesn't care about Linux and web UI, or in their own words:

                                > the web browser remote access is only available via the IE browser

I have an Argus Pro and I would also like to see a native Linux client.

                                  I'm running Ubnuntu 20.04 LTS.

I have not tried running the Windows client in Wine yet, though I doubt I will get better results than anyone else has gotten thus far.

Linux client really needed by now! It's unthinkable that the whole Reolink ecosystem can't be used under Linux.
All single board computers run Linux (raspberry pi, orange pi, banana pi and the likes) and the are the perfect home servers.
                                    Reolink wake up!

Given that the new client is being written in electron, it's hard to imagine any excuse why this wouldn't be supported...

I`m here too to ask for a linux client for my banana pro setup. That would be super nice.

Hi every one, looking to buy a POE CAM running linux....simply,.... without one million settings, visibly not the case for reolink! For adventures i found these two links (i've not tested these links yet, gladys assistant seems to be efficient in its latest version):

                                          https://gladysassistant.com/fr/ or
                                          https://gladysassistant.com/en/
https://www.starmate.fr/camera-ip-reolink-sur-linux/ (in french, Apertium or ...Google translate is your friend 😉

Request for reolink: a linux client should be a good thing with an .AppImage for example \0/

Reolink has been ignoring requests for a linux client for years now. It's ok though in the long run as the software is buggy crap anyhow so it's really no loss. I am now using these cameras with https://shinobi.video/ running on a rasberry PI. It's not the best solution but it gives me a functional NVR and security monitoring station. Reolink makes decent hardware but the software support is lame, and doesn't seem to be getting any better.

What really surprises me about reolinks stance on linux is the appliance NVR they sell runs linux under the hood so they have software, They simply will not release it.

bought a reolink argus2 to evaluate before investing more to expand home security ...

liked it quite well, but the huge disadvantage for me, trying to avoid "windows-crapware" and not being a "smartphone-junkie":

NO Linux client AND also NO browser access is a NO-NO
                                                - at least one of the two would be the minimum req ...

think about it: the world may be bigger than looking to it through "windows" or on a smartphone-screen ...
