I have an old Motorola Moto G3 cell phone running Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) which I keep exclusively to alert me if a person is detected from one of my cameras. It's the most critically important of my cameras and I need to be able act quickly if an event occurs.

I need it to play a very loud intruder alert sound that I have stored in the phone's Notifications folder.

There is no option in the Android app to choose a custom sound. The app plays Reolink's default sound.

Is there a way to play a custom sound instead of your app's default sound?

@pdownes2001_384636162646205 hi there, maybe you've found a solution to this, but just in case - I have in the past week (Mar 2022) created custom notifications on multiple phone devices for similar purposes as you outline, which had stopped working since I updated app version.
All are android phones running different versions, samsung, moto, optus spirit, zte, aspera.
With the sound file you want to be your custom notification sound saved in files on your phone settings, go into settings - notifications - apps - select reolink - ensure that "show notifications" is on - notification categories - into each option in turn and ensure "alert" is active - sound - select your prefered sound file - repeat for each notification category. Now go back into the actual Reolink app - settings - maybe notifications will be an option (on one or two of mine this option was no longer available after update but the custom sound via earlier described process worked for them). Choose Notification sound and select default - I found my sounds didn't work if any of classic/soft/loud were selected - but my customised sounds on each phone are now active for sound alerts. Good luck.

I agree. Would even go so far as to ask to be able to specify the notification sound for each camera and the volume level.

That would be an ideal solution and I would love to be able to assign custom sounds to my four cameras.
I doubt if it's possible unless Reolink find a coding whizkid who can do magic.

There's not many of them about and they cost big buck$.

Another solution is to root the phone and replace the stock notification sound with one you prefer. Every time I try to use the link button to include a URL, my post gets rejected. A search for "root Moto G3" turns up references to Magisk, one of the primary tools for rooting Android phones.

There is an example of using the Tasker app to replace notification sounds on the Task web FAQ.

If you were doing this on your actual "Daily Driver" phone, I think it may be difficult to have some notification sounds be LOUD and others not be.

I imagine Push Alerts come through very quickly. I had wondered if it was possible to trigger an action when a specific email arrives. i.e. one that is from Reolink or has "Motion" in the subject. I have searched for how one might do this and not come up with anything. Probably not using a specific enough search term.

                Might try that.

In the meantime, I've bought a PUSHOVER licence for $5. (Just look for 'Pushover' in the app store). You're best going to their website first on a PC to set it up. Their push notifications contain text and a thumbnail image if you want. It's up to the user to what the notification includes. I can highly recommend it and it's worth every penny.
There's a delay of about ten seconds before it converts an email notification into a push notification but it still arrives earlier than an email alert, which sometimes never arrive at all!

With Pushover, each camera can have a different @pomail address, which means that each camera can have a different notification sound, correct?

                  Wow.

Yes, indeed. You can create your own mp3 files and get properly creative!
You'll need to buy a licence for each @pomail address though, but five dollars, it won't break the bank.

*TIP: Don't have the custom mp3 that you upload to their website stored on a receiving device. It can cause Pushover to get confused.

... and you'll need one mobile device per camera. I don't think the Pushover app can handle separate accounts on the same device.

By default, the phone's notification sound plays when a notification occurs, but it's also possible to silence the notification sound or play a different sound instead. In Android 5.0 Lollipop and later, you can customize the notification ringtone and vibration patterns for incoming calls and messages.
