If I created a new 5Ghz-only network just for this camera, I couldn't access/manage the camera from the network I'm usually logged on to, which would be inconvenient. As for using two different passwords in the same network, my router is an AVM Fritz!Box (2022 model) and it's not possible. Also, using multiple passwords is a potential security flaw, because you're allowing a hypothetical attacker to find whichever password they consider easier — or, equivalently, their chances of finding a correct combination increase.In any case, the camera is advertised as dual-band, so it should be able to switch bands, choosing the best speed and bandwidth. Since this doesn't happen, and it's not even possible to manually switch bands, @Reolink-Fiona Reolink should release a firmware/software fix as soon as possible.
Hello! I see the latest version for macOS is 8.7.3, but the App Store still has the 3.5.6! (more than three years ago) It would be desirable that the App Store should have the latest version: I don't think it makes sense to download such an old version.Also, the macOS app is not yet optimized for the Apple M1 processor (latest Macs) and it only runs through Rosetta. Isn't it time to update?
@big_ted If you are talking about Argus 3 Pro, "auto upgrade" doesn't work regardless of the app version or the operating system, just like the OP said.In my experience, setting auto-upgrade on is actually misleading, because it makes you think that it will upgrade the firmware sooner or later, which won't happen.
@house_604246080061505 The reality is you can't update it automatically even if the apps/clients say "Autoupdate enabled".Anyway, I contacted support and they pushed the upgrade (v3.0.0.973_22051000) just for my device the following day.My impression is they don't want to make the firmware available on the website for some reason, so I guess that's not a bug.

It's a bug. In my experience, auto-update has never worked on macOS.(currently, macOS 12.6 Apple Silicon via Rosetta2)Curiously, Reolink app for iOS installed on (and supported by) macOS for Apple Silicon, is updated properly.
This conflict has been reported to Reolink engineering. Perhaps it would worth confirming that the WiFi connection is not 5G.

My network is managed by an excellent AVM FRITZ!Box 4060. Several devices (including Apple) support the 5Ghz band and the router automatically chooses the best band (2.4 or 5) and channel for each of them depending on factors such as signal strength, required bandwidth, interferences etc. As you may already know, this feature is called band steering, which makes use of two networks (2.4 and 5 Ghz) having the same SSID.Reolink Argus 3 Pro is the only device that only connects to 2.4Ghz, which is a pity because it is located just a few meters from the router and the 5Ghz signal is still very strong. It only recognizes the network as "2.4" and the router doesn't manage to switch its band to 5Ghz.How about updating the firmware in order to fix this bug?
@jedi2020_32727772450952 That's all true.However, the macOS app must always be translated on-the-fly, instruction-by-instruction, from Intel to M1-ARM machine code. No matter how fast Rosetta2 can be, this intermediate layer is a bottleneck. I have been constantly monitoring CPU&memory usage of both apps, and the iPad version is much more responsive while requiring about half resources.If Reolink doesn't release an M1 version for macOS — which, like I said, wouldn't be difficult because they could recycle most source code from iOS/PadOS — I guess I will be using both apps, taking the best of each app and/or architecture as needed.
1. What settings can they modify through their app? (I'm assuming they would use the same Reolink mobile app)
Everyone will be able to change any settings, as long as they have the admin password.
2. What happens if we're both trying to control the pan and tilt at the exact same time? How to tell difference between malfunction and fighting for control?
Even if you click/tap "at the exact same time", one user will precede the other. Who precedes who depends on several factors such as the network lag, order of the interrupt requests etc. Keep in mind the difference could also be a fraction of a micro-second. Technically it's not "malfunctioning" — actually, it's functioning anyway — but your "fighting for control" is definitely not healthy for the system.
3. How many people sharing would be practical limit and what type of performance or capabilities would suffer?
I wouldn't see a performance drop, as long as you guys don't "fight" too much or share the apps with too many people.
I have a WiFi-6 network and the Reolink Argus 3 Pro, which is very close to the main router, receives strong 5 Ghz signal. The camera logs on to the network, but discards the 5 Ghz band and only uses 2.4 Ghz. When I turn off the 2.4 Ghz band, the camera switches to 5 Ghz, having no choice.I guess this behavior should be fixed by the developers. Other devices, such as Amazon Echo Show, correctly choose the 5 Ghz band.In the meantime, is there a way to force the camera to use the 5 Ghz band?
What about Mac Client? QuickTime player on Mac is alreday doing that.
Do you have Intel or M1? In the latter case, see my post in this section. It's not a widget, but you can get a small window anyway (the one in my screenshot is not resized), and it's much faster.Maybe Reolink doesn't realize that the source code for a macOS new widget or app is already there!There is no need to re-design anything or re-invent the wheel.
