@joseph_1979 The NVR (Hw_H3MB18) still had firmware 3.0.0.x. The NVR system reported that the firmware was up to date.I have now updated to 3.4.0.x using a USB stick.Everything works now.Thank you very much for your help.Best regards,Robert
Hello!Unfortunately I have problems with two new cameras (Reolink Duo 2 POE).Existing hardware:1x NVR Reolink RLN16-410 V2 | 16 channels6x Reolink RLC-820A and RLC-822a (2 years old)2x Reolink Duo 2 POE (newly purchased)Mobile phone:On the mobile phone (Apple iPhone) the live video of all cameras and the playback of older recordings works perfectly.NVR:But the live video of the two cameras (Reolink Duo 2 POE) on the NVR remains a black screen. Older recordings are also a black screen when played. What can I do?Best regards from Germany,Robert
Our license plates are 6 x 12 inches (15.24 x 30.48 centimeters).
The German license plate is almost twice as wide (52 centimeters), only black and white and that's not even legible.
All four images that I made are virtually the same, with no noticeable differences.
This is a strong indication that it is not the compression, since otherwise it would always look slightly different depending on the resolution. It points more to the image sensor, which already delivers so poorly.
The camera is what it is! Not what we were hoping for!
I also come to this conclusion. The software can't do anything about that, since the image comes from the image sensor as it comes.

I zoomed in and made a closeup of the license plates which strongly matched your results.
The number plate at 13 meters is difficult to see. These are not clear details. How big are your license plates? The license plates in Germany are very large (52 centimeters) and very clear in their structure, as well as black writing on a white background. And with these best conditions, this license plate is no longer legible at 15 meters.
The cameras f=4.0mm fixed lens and sensor quality aren't that bad but does lack the closeness and details for zooming in on a license plate, Not sure how much a 4k image should be able to be zoomed in without lose of quality.
Try it yourself with your cell phone and see what quality your cell phone delivers.By the way, Reolink gives license plate detectability with this camera with only 13ft (4 meters):https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005087394-Reolink-Cameras-Visual-Distance-on-License-Plates4K and 13ft?So you have to ask the bad guy to drive right in front of the camera.@faasio82_480971996033257 Why did you delete your photos?
@robert_5420 : The picture is taken with 5MP.
Please post the photo in full resolution (5MP).
to be delivered this weekend
I'm curious about your result.
I’m sure there’s potential problems on which computer/browser/phones Reolink’s software is running on and how it handles h265 video.
I've tried multiple ways (Live View, PC, Mobile, USB over NVR, etc.). It doesn't matter, the same problem everywhere.
I’m not sure what the problem could be if you’re taking your image from the highest resolution video from the camera and making sure there’s no resolution loss.
I asked a surveillance engineering pro.He told me that in his estimation the problem is that the image sensor is too small for 4K. The sensor cannot capture a clear image in 4K at all due to its small size. That would mean that a software update cannot solve the problem. The camera would be technical scrap.
@robert_5420 : I have an 523WA and the same problem. This car is about 15 meters away and i can't read the license plate.
Do you have your example photo in full resolution (4K)?
@robert_5420 So some video details of the license plate are not perfect and are limited by distance.
What's hard to understand about that? It's a surveillance system. With a surveillance system, I want to monitor an area, identify people and vehicles.Vehicles have license plates. License plates are large and easy to read. The license plate in the video is 52 cm wide and only 16 meters from the camera. Let's summarize the facts:
Despite these best conditions, you cannot read the letters on the license plate. Any eye, cheap camera or cell phone can read the license plate at this short distance. Just not the Reolink system. What is the surveillance system for? So the system is unusable. This is technical crap. And from the support? No support! No solution. Nothing.
the details of the image are limited by the distance.
This is wrong! In fact, it is a surveillance system with 4K. Here it is only 16 meters away and the license plate is large (52cm wide), the characters are black, the background is white. The lighting conditions (sunshine) are also very good. All circumstances of this situation are perfect for detection. And the result: lousy picture quality and you can't read the letters.
I will let our tech look at this issue.
What does the engineering department say about the problem?
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
I don't need an apology, I need a solution! My money was perfect, I expect the system to work well too.A surveillance system should be able to make a license plate readable at this relatively short distance and with 4K.
