I recently purchased a Reolink PoE doorbell and am very impressed, but I'd also like to be able to purchase a second chime so that I can hear the doorbell in other regions of my house. Reolink, get on it, please! I need a second chime in an Australian version!
@joseph_1979 feature request submitted! I don't see why this wouldn't be possible to introduce via a firmware update for any cameras/systems that already support person/vehicle/pet detection.
Hi All,I run a RLK16-820D8-A system, which includes the RLN16-410 NVR and RLC-820A cameras, which have person/vehicle/pet detection. The other day I had the police knock on my door to query me as to whether my cameras have caught footage of a neighbour's house being broken into a couple of nights earlier. At that point, I set out to determine whether my cameras had indeed captured the event, but, unfortunately, this turned out to be quite arduous as I soon discovered that I had to manually watch through hours of footage. This is because person and vehicle detection events are only logged for detections that occur within my established detection zones. That is, I have the detection zones setup so that I only receive push notifications when someone ventures past a certain point onto my property, as I don't want a notification every time someone simply walks along the footpath outside my house or a car drives along the street. Whilst this works great, it also means that I cannot simply go into playback (via the app) and then select person or vehicle detections, and then see clips of every person or car that walked along the footpath or drove down the street, as the footpath and street are outside my detection zones. My point is that it would be great if there were separate settings for a 'detection zone' (entire camera field of view) and a 'notification zone'. I'd like my cameras to detect every person, vehicle or pet within the camera’s entire field of view (i.e. anyone that walks past my house and every car that drives down the street), and I’d like to be able to filter to show these detections during playback, but I only want to be notified when a person or vehicle ventures into a certain region, a “notification zone”. So, when it comes to playback, I'd like to be able to filter to show:(i) person / vehicle / pet detections within the entire field of view - this would allow me to filter to see every detection event for every person, vehicle, or pet that came into the camera’s field of view, regardless of whether they were on my property or across the road, but I would not receive push notifications for any of these detections. (ii) person / vehicle / pet detections within the 'notification zone' – this would allow me to filter to see detection events for every person/vehicle/pet that ventured onto my property within the designated zones of interest that I had masked/established within the field of view (i.e. my front porch or driveway), and I would receive a push notification based upon my notification settings. I think having person/vehicle/pet detection for the entire field of view as well as for the detection/notification zone would greatly improve the functionality of the camera systems, especially when it comes to finding footage of events that did not occur within established detection zones.
I run an RLK16-820D-A system, which has RLC-820A cameras. These are great cameras with 4K res, dome shape, person/vehicle detection and infrared, but the missing features are two-way audio, a security spotlight and a siren. I'm aware of the RLC-824A, which has 4K res, two-way audio and spotlights, but my understanding is that these cameras with colour night vision rely on the spotlights being constantly on; the webpage listing for these cams even states "for ideal night vision, please keep the spotlights on as supplemmentary lighting". However, I certainly don't want my front door, back door and outdoor living areas having constant LEDs shining over them as soon as it gets dark. So my request is a PoE camera with the following features: -dome-4K (or greater)-infrared for regular night vision recording-motion activated spotlights for intrusion deterrent (and potentially for colour night vision recording?) during a person detection event that occurs during a scheduled period (i.e if someone approaches one of my doors between 10pm - 7am)-two-way audio through the phone app-a siren that can be configured to be automatically activated upon person detection, or manually activated by the app. The presence of an outdoor siren is actually something that my home insurance provider recently queried me on during my policy renewal, and despite having Reolink's RLK16-820D-A system, insurance providers don't regard my house having a security system as it doesn't have an outdoor siren as a deterrent.
I'm referring to the blue box that is circled in red in the attached image. I was playing back videos the Reolink app on my iPad when I first noticed that the blue highlight box sometimes doesn't appear when playing videos. But upon playing back videos again just now I'm unable to replicate the issue on either my iPad or iPhone. So beats me, maybe the app was just glitching on my iPad. I'll keep an eye out for whether I see it happening again. IMG_1246.jpg
Thanks. I had no idea that 'scene mode' was hidden there in the app. I'll give it a go.
I have a RLN16-410, and cameras are RLC-820A and D800.
Something that annoys me is the spate of notifications I receive when there's something I need to do outside my house, as I usually have my phone in my pocket and it's going nuts from constant detection events, or my partner is getting notifications because I'm outside doing something. To avoid this, I currently go into the app and disable push notifications, which turns off notifications for all cameras. Whilst this isn't difficult, I often forget to turn notifications back on. As such, it would be good to have the option to temporarily 'pause' notifications for a defined period, after which notifications auto resume. After clicking pause, an option could be presented to select from defined periods, such 10 min, 30 min, 60 min, 2 h, 6 h, 12 h. Then you could just choose the appropriate option based on how long you expect to need notifications paused.
+1 to this. I'm running a RLK16-820D8-A, which is the newest system with AI, and when the cameras switch from night to day mode it triggers a motion detection event. That's absolutely ridiculous. It doesn't happen as my cameras switch from day to night mode though, only as they go from night to day. Surely motion detection can be momentarily disabled as the switch occurs. Fortunately, the RLK16-820D8-A allows me to filter notifications to only person detections, otherwise I'd still be getting notifications for every camera, every day, as they go from night to day mode.
+1 to this.
I agree that Reolink has an obligation to significantly improve the motion detection on their non-AI systems. I had a RLK8-800D4, which is a modern 4K system, and I was very disappointed by the motion detection. It was useless. I spent months trying to tweak settings but in the end I turned off push notifications completely because even the sun coming out from behind a cloud would set off motion alerts, despite having set motion sensitivity to the lowest possible value of 1. I'll take your word for it that the older cameras cannot be upgraded to with AI functionality, however, the software used by non-AI systems needs to continue to be developed to get a lot smarter to make the motion detection something other than useless. I feel bad because I recommended the same RLK8-800D4 system to a family member before realising that the motion detection on my own system was useless, and my family member is now exceedingly frustrated by it also. The motion detection certainly doesn't live up to functionality that the product description suggests.
I would like both of these. I almost went for a Swann system over the Reolink because Swann has motion activated flood light options as well as two-way audio options. For cameras, it would be hugely beneficial to be able to yell at an intruder to drive them off, in addition to a spot light activating. Together, they would be a great deterrent. For a door bell, it would be great to be able to talk to delivery drivers etc to give instructions. I've considered door bell options but couldn't really be bothered yet. But if there was one that integrated into my Reolink system then that would definitely get my attention.
I'll add a query / bug report / feature request to the mobile app (Android and iOS). When playing back motion detection videos, I've noticed that some videos are highlighted in blue as they are playing, but others are not. It's weird - when playing back sequences of short ~10 sec clips, some clips are highlighted blue, then the next one isn't, then the next one is, then a few aren't, then the blue box is back again. Is that deliberate? If so, why are some videos highlighted in blue and others not? It would be great if the video clip that is currently playing was ALWAYS highlighted with a blue box. I realise that the currently playing clip is slides to the middle of the screen, but that's not the case at the start and end of the sequence of short clips, and so without a blue highlight box it's not exactly clear which video is actually playing once you're approaching the end of a sequence of short clips. Just seems odd to me that the currently playing clip wouldn't always be highlighted with the blue box so I thought it might be a bug.
I found this confusing too, and wasn't even sure when it was sade to shutdown until reading this thread. I clicked shutdown and then was presented with this message, but the harddrive activity continued so I just stood around for a while waiting, thinking it must still be going through a shutdown sequence. The wording should definitely be updated to make it clear that it is now safe to switch off the NVR....and then please unplug.
Update: So I installed the V3.0.0.124 firmware, which, according to the changelog, fixes the issue of alerts for person and vehicle detection behind motion zone areas. Unfortunately, the problem is not completely fixed.I installed the firmware last night and then did some testing. It was working while my cameras were in night vision mode, in that I was no longer getting notifications for person detections when I walked up and down the footpath (behind the motion zone). However, this morning during daylight I am still getting notifications for people walking on the footpath. So it seems V3.0.0.124 fixed the issue during night mode, but not during normal daylight recording. IMG_80A5F68B1209-1.jpegIMG_C6B5402CAA03-1.jpegIMG_612584CAA898-1.jpeg
There are currently two firmwares available on the Reolink website for RLC-820A cameras. Both of them apply to my camera hardware version, which is IPC_523128M8MP. The firmware versions are V3.0.0.124 and V3.0.0.177. Naturally I assumed that V3.0.0.177 was the latest version and included all the fixes introduced in V3.0.0.124, but that doesn't seem to be the case as I see that both firmwares were updated on 15/3/2021. Why there are two firmwares that both apply to my camera hardware version is beyond me, but I'll now install V3.0.0.124 instead as I note the changeling says "MD filters Human/Vehicle detection false alerts and MD area is synchronized by the Human/Vehicle detection."
Thanks for the reply. I updated the firmware on the NVR and all the cameras as soon as I installed the system. All the cameras are running firmware V3.0.0.177, which is the latest firmware available for the RLC-820A via the Reolink website, and the NVR itself is running V3.0.0.123_21031206. See the attached images. Is motion detection zoning meant to working with AI in these firmware versions or does Reolink support have an unreleased firmware version that addresses the issue? Hi All, I recently installed a RLK16-820D-A, which includes the RLN16-410 NVR and 8x RLC-820A cameras. So far I'm impressed with the ability of the AI to distinguish people and vehicles from any motion, however, I'am having one issue. Currently I'm receiving 'person detected' notifications every time someone walks along the footpath outside my house, even though the entire footpath has been blocked out behind a motion zone. See attached images which show an example of one of my cameras covering the footpath. Note that the blue areas are those that you "don't want to receive alerts about". As can be seen in the images, the entire footpath is blocked out for motion detection, but as the iPhone notification centre screenshot shows, I'm still getting push notifications for all my cameras that cover the footpath. I have push notifications enabled with detection type set to 'person', as I do want to be notified every time someone walks up to my front door, but I don't want notifications every time someone walks along the footpath, and I thought that was the whole point of the motion zoning. The function of the fan inside of the Reolink NVR system is heat dissipation.Yes, and my question was whether the NVR would be able to run safely without this active cooling when 8 cameras are recording to a single internal HDD 24/7, given that that's precisely what the RLN8-410 manages to do without an internal fan. * Check and adjust the screws, tighten the fan.As stated in my post, the fan screws are tight. * Remove the cover case of the NVR to test.As stated in my post, I'm not keen to run the NVR with the cover removed. It also seems rather absurd that I would have to resort to this for a brand NVR that was only just supplied in Reolink's latest and most expensive PoE system. * If possible, you may also put the NVR elsewhere.Unfortunately, this is not an option given that the 8 ethernet/camera cables run from all corners of the house then down through the ceiling into this specific location. The phone cabling also runs to this location and is where the modem is situated.
"40*40*40(mm), DC12V, Power:0.43W"shouldn't this be 40x40x10 mm? I've also noticed disappointingly loud fan noise after upgrading from a 8ch to a 16ch system, and I'm looking at options for reducing the fan noise.I'm actually wondering whether the RLN16-410 can be run with the fan disconnected? The reason I'm wondering is because I was previously running a RLN8-410, which had 8 cameras connected and was recording 24/7 to the internal HDD and it had no issues with overheating. The RLN16-410 has the same logic board layout, I'm only recording to 8 cameras, and I only have one internal HDD. As such, the setup is essentially the same as the 8ch setup and yet the 16ch setup has a noisey little fan. Does anybody know of any mods for reducing the fan noise? I'm not keen to run the NVR with the cover removed (although that does actually reduce the noise as the cover seems to amplify the fan noise). The screws holding the fan are tight. I'm tempted to purchase a Noctua 40x40x10mm fan to see how that goes, but I'm not real impressed with having to spend an another $40 for a better quality fan for what was already a AUD$1300 security system.
