Reolink PoE Camera with best People Detection (less false alarms)

Hi there

I just installed the RLC-520 on the front of our house and I am not satisfied with the motion detection. that’s not the fault of the camera - to be honest I just wanted to try a camera out and learn what works in my situation. The frame to frame comparison of the camera isn’t ideal for my situation. I get a lot of false alarms due to rain, insects and wind. Actually in that order. Rain seems to be the biggest challenge at night in my situation. Here you can see a snapshot of the cameras perspective.



Which Camera or Setup would offer me the highest quality level of motion detection? I know that there is smart motion detection which is software processing, right? Is there also a PoE with buildi in IR sensor? What works better from experience. I am really just interested in detecting people on my property.

The RLC-520 uses pixel-based detection. The working principle of motion detection is that camera will judge it as motion when differences in 2 frames reach 0.5%-10% (customize by adjusting motion sensitivity) of the image.  When the picture changes, the number calculated and compared will exceed the threshold and instruct the system to automatically make corresponding processing.
If you want to reduce the false alert, you can try to reduce the sensitivity and adjust the motion detection zone.

For the PoE camera with person/vehicle detection and built-in IR light, you can try RLC-823A or RLC-811A.
RLC-823A is an 8MP PTZ camera with a spotlight, auto-tracking, and 5X optical zoom.

I have adjusted the settings in the cameras quite a lot. Even if I turn it down to the lowest sensitivity setting it still detects rain drops falling through the air or insects buzzing around as motion but on the other hand doesn’t detect a human walking on the lawn. Turning it up more would just make it worse. My conclusion is that pixel comparison isn’t suitable in my situation.

I am wondering what the benefit of those cameras you mentioned compared to RLC-822A is with regards of the detection of motion.

I am actually not so much interested in any other feature than that. And it seems that all 3 have the same smart detection feature.

Best would be to get a Reolink camera with integrated PIR motion sensor. Wich POE camera offers that? I am not talking about PI Light!

In regards to the detection of the RLC-811A, RLC-823A, and RLC-820A, the smart detection feature is almost the same. For the RLC-823A, it has the auto-tracking feature to track the person. For the RLC-811A, it has the 5X optical zoom. If you only want to look at the detection feature, you can choose any of them.

For the AI feature of these cameras, we have enhanced the algorithm of the AI detection in the new firmware. With the new firmware, you can set the sensitivity, alarm delay and object size to filter the rain/snow/insect false alerts.
