I've now spent many hours over the last month trying to understand how to setup and operate my Reolink NVR 8 ch / POE kit with 4, 5K cameras. I'm starting to give up hope. For example, the screen shots in the docs, videos and stills are almost never the identicle set of fields on the screens of my devices (NVR, app and client). For another, there is no description of system functions and how they are related to each other and the overall design goals of the product.

Like, what is the difference between alarm, beep, buzzer, alarm beep, siren, alarm siren, etc.? Do some of these terms have different meanings / functions or are they all just different words that mean the same thing?

Another mystery: After I setup the NVR, If I change a setting in the app or the client, does it change the NVR settings too? Or, does it just change the setting for the device running the app or the client? Are the changes persistent or not in each of those devices? A chart would be helpful.

I have had various alarms and beeps, pushes, etc. working and then some mysteriously stop working or start working after I turn them off. This morning I woke up to find two motion push notifications around 3 AM for the same camera. After testing the push notifications one last time before turning in, I slept with my android mobile app and my laptop client running within inches of my ears. I'm a light sleeper but never heard a thing. Fortunately, the video was captured and showed no suspicious activity.

I've never been a "push button A to make B happen" type of person. I really want to understand how this system works at a deeper level so that I can apply as much of the available value as possible. Maybe there's something on the Reolink site or elsewhere that provides this type of info that I just havn't found yet. Or, maybe I'm stuck with only using a small amount of the capability in this system.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Hi Ray, there are two UI of the PoE NVR now. When you search the functions, you can add "NVR new UI" keyword. You can search some info here, https://reolink.com/sitesearch/.

For the alarm settings, it means the different kinds of alerts like siren, buzzer, push, email, FTP etc.
For the buzzer, it is the beeping sound from the NVR.
For the siren, it is the sound alarm on the camera.

If you change the setting in APP/Client, it will change synchronously on other platforms.

For the push issue, you can try to submit a request here, Submit a request – Reolink Support. Our tech will try to reply to you within 24 hours.

Hope you can enjoy your new NVR!

            Thanks for the advice.

            RE: NVR new UI

My hdw# is N3MB01. Instructions say to update fimrware only if hdw# is N2MB02 or H3MB18. So I do not need to update my firmware, Correct?

Just to be sure, my firmware version is v3.0.0.148-21101146.

Does all that mean that I am using the correct (new UI) provided by my current firware?

Your NVR is with the new UI and the latest firmware. If there is new firmware for the NVR, you can visit our download center to find it. Remember to click the drop-down box to choose the firmware version.

Here is the guide to finding the latest firmware, https://community.reolink.com/topic/2602/how-to-find-latest-firmware-for-reolink-camera-nvr.

One warning / heads-up I'd give, after basically going through the same head-scratching, is that a Reolink NVR has four distinct user interfaces:

                1) the NVR console itself (HDMI port + mouse)
                2) desktop client (Windows, and Mac I believe)
                3) web UI
                4) mobile phone app.

And then the cameras also have a web UI too... but we'll ignore that as it's not needed when you have the NVR.

As far as I can tell, the console is the only one that has "all" features; the desktop client and the web and phone apps are missing a lot of things - especially about adding devices. For example, you can only add a camera that has a password on it via the console.

Reolink appear to be attempting to bring all the apps to parity with the console, but aren't there yet. In the meantime it can be very confusing and frustrating.

It does seem that when you do make a config change using any of the interfaces, it applies to the NVR - the apps appear to not have any state.
