I have the 422 type cameras with zoom and auto-focus, and I want to turn off the auto-focus feature. Is there a way to do this? I had the cameras set up nicely, but when on vacation I think a bug flew in front of one camera and it lost focus. It remained blurry for days until I noticed and changed the zoom, causing it to refocus.

      Thanks

Hi, IBurton. Sorry for that we have no option to turn off the auto-focus.
About the auto-focus, it will fail during adjusting the focus when subjects moving in front of the camera.
And once the focus finished, and it is 30sec later. it won’t auto-focus again after rebooting(via Reolink Client/browser/NVR/APP).
If you reboot it in the 30sec after last focus finished, it would auto-focus again.
But once it powered off/on, it must auto-focus.
So I suspect that your camera may be powered off/on when you were on vacation. Please kindly check about it.
        Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi - thanks for the response.  I don't know of any power issue while we were out on vacation, but it's possible.

Will all the cameras always refocus after the "auto reboot" of the NVR?

My NVR will reboot automatically, as set in the maintenance menu.  My cameras are powered with POE from the NVR.

          Thanks

            Hi IBurton

Please note that cameras will refocus when powered off/on. But if it performs an auto-reboot, camera will stay where the focus was instead of refocusing.

As you mentioned you have a 422 cameras, which is a PoE camera, so it means:

1, if camera connects to the NVR via a PoE cable, camera power will be cut off every time NVR auto reboots, therefore, camera will refocus when it is powered on via NVR again.

2, if camera connects to the NVR via a non-PoE cable, it will stay powered-on when the NVR auto reboots, which means camera will not refocus.

              Hello,

we also have problems with the autofocus but on the RLC-423. While one can set up defined presets of position and zoom, the focus is not saved. After recalling a defined position the camera refocuses again if a different zoom setting is used, even if the focus was precisely tuned for that position before the position was saved. The api is fine and it's quite easy to control the camera with json requests (though unfortunately not documented, it was not too hard to figure out) but not saving the focus to the presets renders the camera unusable for us, since it get's the focus quite frequently wrong when there are things in the foreground or the camera is behind some window.

We bought the camera for evaluation purpose and though the picture quality is quite good, we'll have to stick to our old brand models at least until this is implemented in the firmware.

Besides from that it's a nice camera.

Is it possible to add the ability to disable auto focus in software, or is there a hardware limitation?

I have my cameras exposed so they get rain/snow, which screws up the focus until they are power cycled or manually fixed.  Very annoying.

I'm having this problem too.  When is it going to get fixed?

+1 for an option to disable auto focus.

                        Hi,

I have no solution to focus problem, but I put my script online. You can use it as an example on how to control the camera. I used the firefox developer toolbar to sniff the json requests and replay them with curl.

                        Maybe this helps.
