CPU gets overheating using Reolink client v8.14.2
Customer service suggested to try v8.8.5, same ting happens, can't keep app running.

Using Realtemp app to monitor CPU and set threshold to 100 degrees and after a while the Realtemp sounds an alarm indicating overheating.

@gerald-laganiere_70786400346274 What is the processor of your PC and how many cameras are being shown at the same time? And do you have other background programs? You can check this through t he taskman.

@gerald-laganiere_70786400346274 The 64bit client is utilizing a substantial amount of CPU resources. In my case it is around 34% as illustrated below.

Why you have 32 bit? Clients 8.10.X are all 64 bit . Previous clients like 8.8.5 are 32 bit. When you updated from 8.8.5 to 8.10.4, the client 8.8.5 is still under the Program Files.(x86). Go to Program uninstall and uninstall v8.8.5.

@joseph_1979 I was using Reolink client v8.14.2 and had the same problem of CPU overheating.
Customer service suggested to try v8.8.5, same ting happens, can't keep app running.
Looks like there is something bizarre is happening, sometimes I start the app and CPU would stay ok for a long time I even forgot to stop it all night once.
If it would have overheated, Realtemp would have sound an alarm.

But very often and most of the time when I start the app 8.8.5 or 8.14.2, it starts to go crazy on the CPU after 5 to 10 minutes and overheats.

Wondering if Reolink tries to call home and if it can't maybe it tries again and again, I think I saw someone saying it happened on a Android device.

Today, I tried the 2 versions 8.8.5 (32 bits) and 8.14.2 (64 bits) to compare CPU usage:

I am having the exact issue. I have an older camera with 6 cameras that I'd like to replace. I can keep the old system running all day and it only uses .1% cpu and very lower power usage, while if I run the Reolink cameras with 4 wifi feeds, after 5-10 mins it's using upto 30% cpu and Very High power usage. Kicks my fan in and I have to close it because I can't stand the noise. I have an i7 notebook with 16g and a dedicated GPU.

I contacted support and they said they would ask the software team to optimize the software but that there was nothing they could do at present.

It is interesting you say that the older 32 bit version doesn't have this issue, I would consider downgrading, but they have made so many good fixes in the last few versions I would not want to give that up.

@richsnj Indeed it is using a lot of CPU resources. 38% is too much for a client. They need to change the way they process and display the streams.

I did report this issue to Reolink support back when I posted here and they said they would report it their programmers to see if they could do anything. This morning I got updated to a new version, 18.15.6, and the issue seems to be greatly improved. It's not perfect, but I'm seeing CPU usage consistently below 5% and the power usage is either moderate or low, and not hitting very high anymore - my fan is no longer kicking in.

I'll keep monitoring this today to see if it continues, but as for right now, I'm super happy, thank you Reolink!

Sadly, the low cpu usage only lasted for a day or so and now its back to intermittent 30% and my fan is constantly on 😞

After many tries of both v8.8.5 (32bits) and v8.14.2 (64 bits) it looks like the 32 bits version is stable but when I try the 64 bits the CPU goes wild and overheats.
