Can not connect with hotspot

Hi,

We have 2 camera's. They do connect to our home wifi router (we test is for setting up the camera). But we want to use them at an outside cabin. There we have set up a TP Link 4G router (it has a sim with active data plan inside).
But were are unable to connect the camera's to the router. As we thought the router was the problem, we made a hotspot with 2 different mobile phones. And we have the same problem, we can not connect. What could be the problem? As I wrote, we can connect to our home router, but not to a hotspot. Reolink told us that it must be possible, but we don't know how.
We have good cellular reception 4G and 5G, with speeds 100mbps and more. Also the hotspot can provide 2.4G, 5G and 6G wifi.

I agree. Reolink cameras "just want WiFi." Should make no difference what the source of WiFi is. Perhaps it would be helpful to identify

• The specific camera model (or models) (some Reolink cameras are 2.4G only. some support both 2.4G and 5G WiFi)
• The step in the setup process where it fails. (Some cameras are designed to set up using an Ethernet connection. Some create a QR code that the camera is pointed at. etc.)

We have the RLC-840WA and the Lumus Pro. The first one we have to connect with UTP first the other one with a QR code. They both support 2.4 and 5G. When setting up the 840WA with ethernet connection on our home network, it fails after we disconnect the UTP cable and try to make a wifi connection with our mobile router. The lumus pro it fails after we scan the QR code, we get the error that it can't make a connection. As I said, we have the same problem if we make a mobile hotspot with our phone. But it works on our home network with 'cable' internet.

Has the TP-Link device been temporarily relocated to the home to perform this setup?

Yes, we take the camera and TP link router outside (that is far away from our home network). But it does not want to connect. We can see the camera in the reolink app, but can not make a connection with the router.

@user_880059256070302_880059256070302 I assume the UID is enabled. From your PC you are able to connect and browse the Internet. Can you do this command and see you get a response?

Connect the notebook to your 4G TP router through WIFI and run CMD in Windows and run the following

nslookup -q p2p2.reolink.com
nslookup -q pushx.reolink.com
nslookup -q home-cdn.reolink.us

It is essential that your mobile subscription has access to the Internet. It has to be an IoT and not M2M. Normally M2M doesn't allow Internet access but not all mobile operators impose this.

We just discovered that it works when we make a hotspot with an old samsung phone. Very strange, no idea what the problem can be. It does not work with the TP link router or with our Pixel android phones

@user_880059256070302_880059256070302 There may be some settings in your pixel phone. I have seen such complaints but forgot what was the solution. I suggest you to do a search on this community and reddit. At Reddit you can find customers using Pixel smartphone and they will surely help you. I am a member too.

Have you tried factory resetting the cameras and setting them up using the TP Link 4G router's network only? NOT your home network first.

Yes we tried that, no luck. Now we will try a different router as we discovered that if worked with a random old samsung phone.
