I just cant seem to get the sensitivity right for my cameras, and then I noticed that the number of notifications I get are due to clouds passing and changing the whole frame colour density causing alerts to trigger. Would it be possible to provide a density frame change control whereby you can set the volume of the screen that changes before raising an alarm for example if more than 80% of the screen changes then dont raise an alarm. I find this most irritating on a cloudy sunny day when the constant change to the image frame colour density is raising alarms every few seconds. The same also occurs when a car is passing at night and the headlights reflect across the building or parked cars.

I agree. This is similar to the situation when the camera changes from Daylight (color) mode to Night (black & white) mode. It generates a "motion" event. People have mentioned for over a year how frustrating it is to open such a recording and find that literally "nothing moved".

You get what you pay for. These cameras are cheap because they are cheaply made.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. The cameras are inexpensive because the vendor has practically no overhead. I find the build quality, packaging, and software to be equal to other products. I do not frequent user forums for other brands, but my guess is that there are an equal number of complaints about, "why doesn't it do THIS (or THAT)".

If customers want a telephone support line, that cost has to be reflected in the product cost.

I certainly have disappointments with the product (mostly the firmware). If I had spent three times the money, I would be VERY upset.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. For the PoE and WiFi cameras, they identify the motions by comparing the two frames (before and after). If there is a difference between the two frames, the alarm for motion detection will be triggered. So the light changing will also trigger motion detection. To be honest, the false alerts can't be avoided completely, but you can set to reduce the false alarm. You can refer to How to Avoid False Alerts on Reolink Cameras to learn more.
And yes, our cameras are inexpensive and it is also not perfect. But we are working hard to make our camera smarter and better. Thank you for your supporting Reolink.
If you have other questions, welcome to leave the comment here. Or you can send an email to support@reolink.com for further assistance. Have a nice day:)

Hi, I think perhaps my suggestion was taken out of context, I am very happy with the quality and price of the system I have RLK8-800B4 in my experience so far. My suggestion was to understand if the control software as explained may have an additional control added to set the amount of frame variation. I understand fully that false alerts cannot be ruled out entirely. I just thought that if this addition to the software was made it would enhance the quality of the product adding to the controls that already exist for masking etc.

We are on the same wavelength. Every product can be improved. Some of the things I have wanted Reolink to change are:

Let the user set a 'minimum' amount of time that must be exceeded in order for something to be 'motion'. This would prevent, for example, a bird flying rapidly across the screen from triggering events. If the user truly wants 'everything, no matter how short', they would have the option. If they think that only motion that persists for 200ms (2 seconds, whatever) to be recorded, they should be able to set that.
Let the user set the number of seconds for 'prerecord and 'postrecord', which are now fixed at 5 seconds before and 15 seconds after.
Make the camera stop triggering 'motion' when it changes from color to b&w or back.
Make the Windows Client 'remember' the display settings so that it will open the same size it was before.
