Is the small lithium cell on the PCB for the RLC-422 5MP HD Dome Camera...

      a) User replaceable (eg no soldering required)
      --or--
      b) Non-user replaceable

If the cell is user replaceable, then would there be any factory settings/configuration/calibration etc lost that would require return to factory?

What would be the symptoms of requiring a new cell, what is the expected life and what model of cell would be required?

See attachment for photo of BAT2 on the board.

      regards

      Martin

The written reply from the Reolink Support Team was:

        …(snip)…
Is there anything wrong with the camera?
Why do you take apart the camera?
That part is not user replaceable.
Besides, it damages the warranty if you take apart the camera according to our warranty policy.
        …(snip)...

I interpret a tone of surprise from the support department that I had discovered this…although the package helpfully includes a small wrench as you are required to remove the top to access the screw hole that can be seen in my photo and also to insert the MicroSD memory card. Their own website even shows the top being taken off to access the screw holes at https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004428233-Install-the-Bracket-for-RLC-422-422W (and a slightly different arrangement of the yellow battery/cell can be seen near the screw hole).

I don’t know if the battery is to preserve manufacturer factory calibration settings and hence once exhausted would truly render it non user replacement… but I would suggest the designers consider using true non volatile ram for any settings as it is relatively cheap and would extend the life of the product.

We sincerely apologize for the improper expression of our customer support.
We will keep improving our service.
Both model RLC-422 and RLC-422W need to be opened up by the wrench once you want to insert the SD card or install the bracket. So our support shouldn't have questioned you.
The small lithium cell on the PCB is not user replaceable and we also don't suggest users to replace it themselves.
If you have any problems with this model, please open request to our support@reolink.com for assistance.

You still didn't answer the question...What is the battery used for?
