Support for Apple Silicon M1 and App Store
-
Hello! I see the latest version for macOS is 8.7.3, but the App Store still has the 3.5.6! (more than three years ago) It would be desirable that the App Store should have the latest version: I don't think it makes sense to download such an old version.
Also, the macOS app is not yet optimized for the Apple M1 processor (latest Macs) and it only runs through Rosetta. Isn't it time to update? -
In the meantime, I've managed to get an optimized Silicon-M1 version
From your M1 Mac, open the App Store, type "reolink" and the "Reolink Client" will show up. But, like I said, that's a very old version, so don't download it! Click the "Apps for iPhone and Pad" tab instead: you can now download the iPad app, which is built for Apple Silicon-M1 (ARM) and has more features than the current app for macOS.
It works like a charmοΈ
β¦and maybe Reolink doesn't even know this
Now you have:- a faster app, because it's native ARM code
- a smaller app, about 50% of space and memory than the Intel macOS version
- features unavailable in the macOS app: info about live streaming bandwidth, firmware updates for battery-powered cams etc.
For the record, this also means that Reolink could provide a Silicon-M1 macOS app right away, because the source code and the machine code would be almost identical to the iPad version. -
