Reolink App v4.41 Released
1000% need this to happen, the doorbell press calls to phone, Amazon Echo Devices, Google Home hubs (if possible) should be done via SIP call like most other video doorbells do. Half the point of having a video doorbell is being able to answer the door from your phone or smart display. This will also allow users to have a different notification tone for doorbell press than the motion alert tone. It would also be really nice if different notification tones could be a*signed to different cameras.
SOLVED read to the endI installed 2 doorbell cameras a few days ago and they work well for the most part. I have been testing the doorbell press on both today and I cannot enable talk for about 1 minute after I ring the doorbell, I get the error "failed to enable talk"I can enable talk if I open the app and want to talk or send quick replies and all works normally UNLESS I have pressed the doorbell b**ton, once I press the doorbell b**ton I lose the ability to activate talk and get the error. I am able to activate talk again after about 1 minute.I tried both my Android phone and my iPad and get the same results, this also affects quick replies and the automatic reply, none if it works.SOLVED I had the Alexa integration set to alert on doorbell press announcements which activates video automatically on my Echo Show devices and that was stopping the app from allowing access to talk. I was able to successfully access talk when the doorbell rings after turning off that featureIt seems for now that you can use either the Alexa alert on doorbell press OR have the ability to use the Reolink app to talk but not both at the same time.NOTE: Once the Echo Show answers the blue ring on the doorbell lights up the same as when you are using the talk feature from the Reolink app, once the light goes out you can use talk in the app again. I rang the doorbell and Alexa showed the video, I told Alexa to stop which closed the video and made the blue ring turn off a few seconds after that which once again allowed talk to work from mobile devices.
This really needs to happen on the Android app. I am able to activate fingerprint on IOS on my iPad but really need it on my Android phones. Using a pa*sword just slows down opening of the app too much. This should be a standard feature on any camera app, my Hikvision app and Blue Iris apps support this. There is a biometric API in Android starting with Android 10+ so it should be trivial for this to be implemented.
@joseph_1979 It really has nothing to do with having two doorbells, it's the functionality of how Alexa / Echo shows interact with even one doorbell. Reolink engineers have confirmed this is expected behavior. When a doorbell press is detected by Alexa and video stream starts on an Echo show device the engineer said it takes over the audio channel for 5 MINUTES! if you ask Alexa to stop the video stream then it releases the audio channel after 1 minute.I let them know how inconvenient this behavior is as it completely stops 2 way conversation via smartphones and if no one is home to communicate via an Echo show there is no way to communicate with a visitor when everyone is away from home, including not being able to issue a quick reply. I mentioned the need to have SIP / video call be the method of communication and hopefully that implementation resolves the issue with Echo show as well as making the overall doorbell experience better.
@jcuriel3829_636647304392948 I'm on the latest firmware and this option is available and working for me.
It works great with Home A*sistant, I have doorbell presses programmed for several automations.
@user_646647355175025_646647355175025 I installed my doorbell cameras yesterday and was pleasantly surprised when the Alexa app on my phone informed me it discovered the new doorbells and presented me with the options of it to announce Person Detection, Motion Announcements and Doorbell press announcementsWhen the doorbell is pressed Alexa makes the announcement then opens the live video and gives the option to turn on the microphone for 2 way communication.
@reolink-lorenz This needs to be a priority, I just got the 2 of the doorbell cameras, added my wife and notices that admin is needed for talk. A video doorbell where the user cannot talk to someone at the door is a little useless.A better option that has already been suggested would be to initiate a SIP call like almost all other video doorbells do in order to make the interaction a lot more seamless.
@reolink-fiona I just got my RLC-823a a week ago and love it, it's currently my only Reolink camera. I love it so much i'm going to replace my 2 doorbells and maybe a couple of my other cameras with Reolink.
@waynewillis88_388564343382234 I just got my first Reolink camera last week and I started out on this version, I have none of the bugs at all listed in this thread. The only issue I am having is that it takes a really long time to open the app, it takes about 16 seconds to open and 2 more seconds for the image to appear.
