I want to be able to share out my video streams without including audio on all cameras for all users. It should be easy to enable or restrict on the client side, if audio can be played back or not. I would like to see this on a per-camera basis, not across an entire account, as some cameras may be located in more sensitive areas than others. Currently the only option to restrict audio is to stop recording it at the device level, which isn't very useful for an Admin.

      Thanks!

@platinum_jello_528733688770693 It is not that easy as you think. Remember that the audio is in the recorded file and your client will be playing this file.

@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 But that's where it's easy... you don't need to re-encode the video without sound at the source (I mean that would probably be ideal, but the extra processing would be unnecessary), you can just eliminate the sound component (or, force "mute" if you will) at the far end. That's why I think it would be so simple, just a little code addition to the app.

To be meaningful, restrictions like this need to be enforced in the stream, not just on the client. Otherwise, someone could reimplement the client and get around the limitation.

@matthew_635366143033465 That's why I stated to him that this is not simple and needs re-engineering.

So do nothing? I get that someone could hack into your audio stream, but we aren't talking online banking here. Furthermore, you'd generally only give stream access to someone you moderately trust, it would be ill-advised to post it to the open world in any scenario...

There's several ways to secure the data, restricting it at the application level would be a very easy mechanism that could be implemented today without any alteration of the NVR software (aside from adding the permission setting). Anyway, I don't care how it's done, it's still something I'm surprised/disappointed wasn't available.

@platinum_jello_528733688770693 I didn't say do nothing. I pointed out that this needs re-engineering of the existing hardware and software. Currently you need to grant access to someone who trusts.
