I've recently installed a Reolink system - NVR, four outdoor cameras, and a video doorbell. Overall, I am completely satisfied with the bang for the buck!

However, I must admit that I am a bit disappointed with the video doorbell. But before I write it off, I wonder if there are some settings that I can adjust that may help.

I know that the manual clearly states that quality will suffer if the camera is not in the same lighting as where the camera is pointed. So, I understand that my setup won't be perfect because I have a fairly large porch overhang, which changes the lighting of where the doorbell is installed versus where the doorbell is viewing. But the image is basically completely unusable.

However, our 10 year old Vivint doorbell camera had 10x better picture quality than this brand new Reolink. I suspect it is something that I can (hopefully) fix via settings!

      Please help!

      Thanks 😊

@bkj2024_891124536156382 You definitely need HDR. But Reolink doorbells lack this great feature. You may add an IR illuminator or a motion activated light to illuminate the covered porch.

Are you able to move the camera outside the porch?

@bkj2024_891124536156382 Even being able to get some of the dark areas visible by tweaking the brightness and contrast isn't really a good solution, for me at least. Yes, I may be able to now see the persons face but at the cost of not being able to see the background very well and potentially being unable to see their vehicle and number plate.
I would be interested to know if the doorbell just doesn't have the hardware and processing power. Or if it is a matter of the HDR feature not being implemented in the current firmware.

So what I am asking (hopefully a Reolink employee can answer this), is it possible that some form of HDR may be implemented in future firmware versions?

It is because the doorbell camera lacks robust WDR/HDR settings. I too came from Vivint and found this disappointing shock. Not too much you can about it at the moment other than adjust what's there. I managed to get mine a little bit brighter at the sacrifice of washing out the sky.

@chopstix_887064913674433 Also see if adjusting the anti-flicker settings works. I had a similiar issue previously that this caused this issue, unsure why though.

Thank you all for the replies!

I adjusted the anti-flicker as well as the brightness. It made a huge difference! Still leaves some quality to be desired, but it is a usable picture now.

                Thanks again!

                Merry Christmas!

I am wondering if the IR light that normally comes on at night could be set to remain on all the time?
This may give more light on the person at the door and allow for more detail but possibly not in colour. Would need to try and see.
