What is local storage? Local storage usually refers to anything that is “on-premise” like HDD, flash drive, SD card, local file server, or Network Attached Storage drive (NAS).
With hands-off equipment as a storage backup, local storage can be a great data storage solution. You don’t need to access your files with an Internet.

There are many advantages to having local storage.

      1. No need for an Internet connection
      2. Reliable and Accessible:
You can control all of your data locally anytime without limitation.
      3. Offers far more options for customization
      4. Faster data transfer
      5. No hidden fees
      6. Secure and local management

      There are also some disadvantages:
      1. Physical space required
      2. Need IT management skills
      3. Susceptible to external damage

If you use the Reolink devices, the most common local storage options are NVR HDD and SD card.

      NVR Local Storage:

      Local management & Local detection:
Using the NVR, you can manage your data locally and it is built-in local detection. Without the Internet and extra fee, you can also control your camera stored videos in your HDD, and receive notifications in your monitoring area.

Flexible connection of different types of cameras for your videos storage
Many users may not find that both PoE and WiFi wired cameras can connect to the NVR flexibly. You can control the data for most types of Reolink cameras.

      External HDD is Available
You can add the external HDD according to your needs. NVR HDD can record up to 291 days of 24/7 recording for 1 camera and 4096 bit-rate setting.

      FYI:
Different models and hardware versions have different HDD capacity recommendations. You can find the capacity parameter here.
If you would like to know how long can your NVR record, you can refer to this article.

      SD card: Convenient Local Storage

SD card is a very convenient set-up of local storage.
When choosing the SD card, it is also important to think of the endurance especially if you record 24/7. You can choose high endurance cards if you record 24/7. If the camera only records motion videos, 32GB would be ok.

      Advantages:
      (1) Cheaper than hard drive
      (2) Small and easy set-up
      (3) Record both continuous and alarm videos
      (4) Able to playback in the APP and Client
      (5) Time-lapse video can record on the SD card.
      (6) Work with the battery cameras

      Tips:
Capacity: Up to 256GB, but it may depend on your camera model.
Requirements: FAT32 and Class 10 or later read and write speed

What do you think of the local storage? Any thoughts or tips are welcome.

@reolink-fiona NVR, Client on windows 11 and app on android phone/tablet

So I am new to Reolink.

              Got 4 cameras all wifi, 2 ea TrackMix , 1 ea Duo2 and 1 E1 Zoom.

I started with the cameras installed Micro sd cards, downloaded the Client app on windows11 and the app on my mobil phone.

Every thing works just fine found out how to do firmware updates for the cameras with a usb stick, updated the client to v8.10.4 not a single problem.

I got the NVR RLN8-410, set it up and it works.

However now I have the all cameras show 2 times each so 8 small screens instead of 4 as when I only had the client running prior to the NVR.

It seams strange to have the surveillance in 2 formats: on the camera sd card, and on the NVR HDD.

So I just downloaded the app on my tablet and only the NVR is there with the 4 cameras.

How do I get to only have the NVR only on all apps/client and is it advisable ?

Do I remove the SD cards from all cameras or ?

              Apricate your input.

              Mike.

Can we use a local HDD with the Argus 3 pro? If yes, what is the process?
              Thanks

@f-pierresteguy_441320730525874 Due to battery constraint none of the battery operated cameras can be added to the NVR.

As i know one of the significant advantages of local storage is that it enables applications to function offline. Users can continue using the application and access stored data even when there is no internet connectivity. Local storage allows for quick retrieval and storage of data on the user's device. It eliminates the need to fetch data from a remote server, resulting in faster load times and smoother user experiences.
