      RLN8-410:

I want to use only a hidden 4TB external drive and NO internal drive to prevent theft of the drive.
      Will that work?
      Thank you.
      Herb

@hlbullis_280003274907849 Herb the internal drive is likely connected with a SATA cable at least, if not a power cable as well. How can you imagine to place this external from the housing and not have this be obvious to a thief?

Assuming it is the RECORDINGS that you don't want taken-away from you, I believe you can set-up FTP to a drive e.g. connected to a PC or your router elsewhere in your home, and have all events transferred to that as well over ethernet or wifi. This may be help:

          https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000623886-How-to-Upload-Continuous-Recordings-to-FTP-on-Reolink-App/

It seems to me that unless the thief completely ransacked your house, he could be thwarted in this way.

If instead you don't want the thief to take your NVR and possess your recordings, well I dunno about that, I don't think though that it is possible to encrypt the contents of the NVR.

@myreolink_533265780207845 Definitely ftping the files to a remote physical/cloud ftp server is the best solution.

As for the encryption I have asked dev team to encypt the videos on both the SD and the NVR for a number of times. It is not only to protect but also to be protected. This is particular important for us to protect our privacy if such entities are stolen.
