Is there no firmware upgrade planned for the RLC-410 and other cameras with IPC_3816? I have over 100 of these installed amongst my home and my clients' offices/homes. If this is the case, they will not be replaced by Reolink cameras. That's not a threat to try to get my way - I'm just saying. That doesn't instill brand trust at all. In fact, it makes me a little leery of continuing to do business with Reolink. I have enjoyed their low price and mostly good quality hardware, but it isn't worth it if their products become obsolete/incompatible within 1-2 years of buying them. Don't be lazy Reolink - support the community that supported you.
Can you explain a bit more about how these cameras are viewed? The BIG issue with regard to camera firmware is when using a web browser to view video (both live and playback) because Adobe Flash will not be supported by major web browsers after Dec 31.My only remaining IPC_3816 camera is a RLC-410WS. (I haven't replaced it because Reolink doesn't make a 5MP WiFi camera yet.)I can view live video on this 3816 camera with the Reolink Windows Client, with the Reolink Android "app", and and also using the (free) VLC Video Player app (rtsp://192.168.1.52:554/h264Preview_01_main) on Windows and Linux.Since I have deleted Flash from my computer, what I CANNOT do is open this camera with a web browser that does not have Flash. How many of the 100+ cameras are viewed with web browsers rather than one of the other methods?p.s. I am not trying to defend or excuse Reolink. Seems (to me) that once HTML5 had been incorporated into the newer firmware, it would not be too difficult to "back port" it to the earlier models.
Sorry that our R&D team will not update the firmware that can support HTML5 for the IPC_3816, it is not only related to the software update but also related to the hardware. Is it convenient for you to use the REolink APPor Client?
I'm behind a firewall.... is there an option for the app to use http/https proxy? If not, then pls suggest a solution.
The connection of the Reolink app and client is not based on Flash. The Flash will not affect the connection of Reolink software. If it's convenient, you can continue to access the cameras via the Reolink software.
The fact is Cynthia, Reolink stated that HTML5 support was forthcoming. Now the story has changed. Your organization has now waited until the 11th hour, and you're directing users to contact support, who are trying to quietly push the bad news to those of us who have been loyal customers and have old as well as new Reolink products. Reolink's communication with your customers has been p**s poor up to this point, and users are rightfully annoyed that you have left them in the dark, discontinued products, replaced them with newer versions and abandoned those of us who have been loyal to your brand.Directing users to a different method of connecting to their cameras is nonsense. Provide HTML5 support as you originally stated you would. There was an earlier version of the IPC_3816 in HTML5 that was beta. Your organization was close to having this done. You've chosen to abandon support hoping that we will buy newer hardware. That is a dishonest approach. There are plenty of budget cameras available out there. It would be wise to not take your customer base for granted. It will cost you in the long run.
We really appreciate the support of our loyal customers. The development of Reolink cannot be separated from your supports. We also understand that it is an unhappy experience to know that the firmware for IPC_3816 will not be updated. Actually, we have communicated with the R&Dteam and I am afraid what we can do is limited at this point. Could you please contact the support team to see if they have a better solution?
Nothiung but a money grab. They knew full well that flash had a short shelf life. Flash has been on the DIVEST notice for YEARS.
