This one is kind a long-term thing, but: I would love to see future cameras support the AV1 codec over H.265. The patent licensing status of H.265 makes it difficult for open source projects. As a bonus, it also gets better bitrates for comparable quality. (I know that the hardware isn't up to the task yet, though. But in a few years....)
My top answer is definitely webhooks/mqtt (as has already been mentioned).Second, though: playback in the Android app could use a re-think (and it would be nice for the same to apply to the NVR web interface, for that matter.)Right now, when I receive an alert that a person is at the door from my camera, my workflow is:
It would be nice for it, instead, to just go right to playing the relevant clip.Second -- I have two cameras covering the same area from a different perspective. Right now, I just have one camera sending notifications. Ideally, though, they'd both be looking -- but the app would know to not send a second alert if they both trigger within a short window. And third, it would be nice to have an overall "events" view, which I could customize to remember which AI events to show by default. For my use, it's generally people -- and maybe pets occasionally. But I'd really like a timeline view of all "people" events from all cameras. As it is, once the webhooks are available, I will use Home Assistant to get the behaviour I want. But I think it would still be nice for the app to just work this way.Thank you for considering!
@skynet01-14_512285893755085 I definitely second this! I know that webhooks are on their way as a beta option (https://community.reolink.com/post/16822), but MQTT would be great too (and even better, both options -- user flexibility is good!)
@reolink-fiona How will the webhook work with an NVR?
I'm very excited to hear about the webhook work. That is going to be really useful.I think the main thing is to be as flexible as possible with what data is sent. It might be nice to have an option to POST or PUT an entire image along with an alert -- but for other applications short and sweet would be nicer.(It would be really nice to also implement MQTT.)
@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 Yes, I agree -- thanks to this forum for saving me some annoyance!
Thank you posting this! I stopped in confusion at this point because I was not sure if "Update Configure File" meant "put a new configuration file in place, and then update it with my own settings", or if it meant "replace the current config file with an updated, default one".Like you, my assumption was the first -- and I'm glad I double-checked!
@mattdm_579588790694198 You can re-order them to whatever order you want them on Android without deleting anything.
It's not an issue of order. One camera was literally showing up twice, once on channel 2 and once on channel 4. I could reorder those channels, but there would still be two of them.I know this sounds weird, but that was the behavior. Plugging in a monitor and deleting them all and putting them back has resolved the problem.
Ok, so it can't really just be headless in the basement. Weird.I wanted to delete them because they were clearly confused -- in the NVR, not the client apps. They were appearing in the web interface wrong, and in the android app too even after deleting everything and re-adding. Going down to the basement with a monitor, unplugging everything, deleting everything from the config there, and then plugging back in in the desired order worked. I don't expect to need to do that often, but it was kind of strange.
I'd planned for my NVR to live in the basement on a shelf and manage it remotely -- it didn't occur to me that this might not be possible. But the web interface (and phone app) even when logged in as administrator do not seem to offer the same functionality. Am I missing something, or do I need to actually plug in a monitor and mouse to remove cameras?(The context: for some reason, one of my cameras is showing up on both channel 2 AND channel 4, and I just want to delete everything and start over. But ... I don't seem able to?)
@jonas_3602 Yes! This is a great idea -- and possibly should be its own request/thread?
