RE: Enhance Your Security with Pre-Motion Recording Feature
@joseph_1979 sorry, it is the Altas seris, not availble to the Argus series yet
-
Enhance Your Security with Pre-Motion Recording Feature
Today, we’re here to introduce a key feature of the Reolink Altas PT and Altas PT Ultra: Pre-Motion Recording. This functionality ensures critical moments are captured before motion is detected, providing a more comprehensive view of events. Below is a guide to how it works and how to configure it.
What Is Pre-Motion Recording?
Reolink’s Pre-Motion Recording starts capturing footage 10 seconds before motion is detected, addressing potential delays in traditional motion-triggered recording. This ensures the full context of an event is recorded, even if environmental factors (e.g., PIR sensor limitations) delay detection.
Key Details:- Compatible with SD cards, FTP, and cloud storage (not available for email alerts).
- Balances battery life and storage efficiency by avoiding 24/7 recording.
Configuration Guide
Setup via the Reolink App:- Enable Pre-Recording Mode
- Open the Reolink App → Select your camera → Navigate to Settings → Camera Recording → Toggle Pre-Recording Mode on.
- Adjust Frame Rate
- Default: 5 FPS (optimized for battery efficiency).
- Optional: Increase to 10 FPS for smoother footage (note: raises power consumption by 40-50%).
- Battery Saver: Pre-recording automatically disables if the battery drops below 20% (adjustable threshold).
- Schedule Settings
- Select Schedule → Choose Always On for continuous use or Custom to specify active hours/days (e.g., disable pre-recording on weekends).
Use Cases for Pre-Recording
- Incomplete Event Capture: Resolves delays in motion detection, ensuring recordings start earlier.
- Extended Monitoring: Suitable for users needing continuous coverage without frequent battery replacements.
- Limited PIR Range: Compensates for shorter detection distances by capturing footage prior to trigger.
Notes for Argus PT Ultra Users
This model supports three frame rate modes:- Stream Mode (default for live viewing).
- Smart Battery Mode (adjusts based on battery level).
- Pre-Recording Mode (prioritized in low-frame-rate scenarios).
Note: During live viewing or triggered alerts, the frame rate defaults to Stream Mode.

If you’re looking to connect your Reolink camera via a web browser or stream live views using protocols like RTSP, ONVIF, or others, configuring the correct port settings is essential. Below is a detailed guide to help you set up ports for your Reolink devices.
Important Notes Before Configuring Ports- Battery-powered cameras (e.g., Argus, Go, etc.) do not support port configuration.
- Port numbers must be within the range 1–65535.
- If the port settings page isn’t loading, try rebooting your camera and router.
- Device-specific limitations:
- E1/Lumus: Does NOT support HTTP/HTTPS/RTMP/RTSP/ONVIF ports.
- E1 Pro: Does NOT support HTTP/HTTPS/RTMP ports.
- For cameras with Smart Detection (Person/Vehicle/Pet), you can toggle RTMP/HTTP/HTTPS/RTSP/ONVIF ports ON/OFF. Other cameras lack this toggle—ensure ports are enabled if experiencing issues with 3rd-party apps.

How to Set Up Email Alerts on Reolink Devices: A Step-by-Step SMTP Guide
If you want to receive instant email alerts (with snapshots!) from your Reolink cameras, NVR, or Home Hub when motion is detected, SMTP configuration is key. Let’s break down what SMTP is and how to set it up for your Reolink devices.
What is SMTP?
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a communication protocol used to send emails between servers. Reolink devices use SMTP to deliver alerts directly to your inbox whenever motion is detected, ensuring you’re always informed—even when you’re away from your surveillance area. This feature adds an extra layer of security by letting you act quickly in critical situations.
Step-by-Step SMTP Configuration
Step 1: Access Email Alert Settings- Open the Reolink App and log in to your device.
- Tap the
️ Device Settings icon (top-right corner).
- Navigate to Email Alerts.
Step 2: Enable & Configure Email Alerts
- Toggle Enable Email Alerts ON.
- Tap Set Up Now.
- Enter the Sender Email Address and its Password (the account that will send alerts).
- Fill in the SMTP Server and SMTP Port (see notes below).
- Tap Save to confirm.
SMTP Server & Port Tips:
- For Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook: The app will auto-fill the SMTP server/port once you enter the email address.
- For other providers (e.g., iCloud, ProtonMail): Manually input the SMTP server/port. Check your email provider’s documentation for details.
Step 3: Customize Email Settings
Tap Email Settings to adjust:- Sender Email: Must match your SMTP server.
- Password: Use the sender email’s password.
- Security Tip: For accounts with 2FA (like Gmail), generate an App Password instead of your main password. Learn more.
- Recipient Email: Enter the email that will receive alerts. This can be the same as the sender’s address or a different one.
- Email Content: Choose to attach Pictures/Video or send Text-only alerts.
- Email Interval:
- Set a time limit (e.g., 10 minutes) to avoid spam. Only one email will be sent per interval, even if multiple alarms trigger.
- Note: Battery-powered cameras do not support interval settings.
Step 4: Test Your Configuration- Tap Test to verify if alerts send successfully.
- If the test fails, troubleshoot using our guide: Reolink Email Test Failed.
Step 5: Set Up Email Schedule
- Tap Schedule to customize when alerts are sent.
- Alarm Schedule: Receive emails only when motion is detected during selected times/days.
- Timer: Receive emails regularly at set times (based on your Email Interval), regardless of motion.
- Note: Battery cameras do not support Timer mode.
Key Notes
For Battery-Powered Cameras:- No Email Interval or Timer settings.
- Alerts depend solely on motion detection.
SMTP Server Requirements:
- Ensure SSL/TLS is enabled (ports 465/587 are recommended).
- Double-check server/port accuracy for non-Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook accounts.

Understanding Reolink Camera IP Ratings: Your Guide to Weatherproof Protection
At Reolink, we know that durability is just as important as performance when it comes to security cameras. Whether you’re installing a camera outdoors or in challenging environments, understanding IP (Ingress Protection) ratings can help you pick the right camera for your needs. Let’s break down what these ratings mean and how they ensure your Reolink camera stands up to the elements!
What’s an IP Rating?
IP ratings are international standards that classify how well a device resists dust and water. The rating has two digits:- First digit (dust protection): Ranges from 0–6. All Reolink cameras have a 6, meaning they’re completely dustproof.
- Second digit (water protection): Ranges from 0–9. This determines how well the camera handles water exposure.
Reolink Cameras’ IP Ratings Explained
Our cameras come with IP64, IP65, IP66, or IP67 ratings. Here’s what each means for you:- IP67: Survives temporary immersion (up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes). Perfect for areas prone to flooding or heavy splashing.
- IP66: Handles powerful water jets from any direction. Ideal for heavy rainstorms or locations with strong water spray. (Example: Argus Eco Ultra & Argus 4 Pro)
- IP65: Protects against low-pressure water jets. Great for standard outdoor use with rain exposure. (Example: Argus 3 Ultra)
- IP64: Resists splashing water but not direct jets or immersion. Suitable for covered outdoor areas.
No matter the rating, all Reolink cameras are built to be 100% dustproof (thanks to that “6” in the first digit!).
The table below shows what each digit or part of the IP rating represents.
How to Check Your Camera’s IP Rating
Not sure about your camera’s IP rating? Here’s how to find out:
Method 1: Use the Reolink Website Search Bar- Visit Reolink’s website.
- Type your camera model in the search bar (unsure of the model? Check this guide).
- Go to the product page, click “Product Introduction”, then check the “Spec” section.
Method 2: Visit the Product Page Directly
Head to your camera’s product page on our website and look for the IP rating under the “Spec” tab.
Why It Matters
Choosing the right IP rating ensures your camera performs reliably, whether it’s facing a summer thunderstorm, winter snowfall, or dusty environments. With Reolink, you’re not just getting crisp video quality—you’re getting peace of mind.
